The burn..

F

No snuff gives me such a satisfying burn as J&H Wilson Sp no 1. I appreciate the subtle bergamot scent and base tobacco but the burn for me is the main reason I snuff this one. I guess it’s a combination of the grind and my nose. What snuff do you enjoy for the burn?

S

For me it would have to be wos grand cairo.

J

WoS Best Dark gives me a nice tingle 'n sting. Same with some other WoS snuffs that have a floral scent. Princes, too. Brunswick is a bit too much of bite, when I think about it. I haven’t tried any of these new pepper snuffs yet.

H

Viking Dark is the best burn for me - burn but nothing hits the throat or gets past the mid-nose even if you snuff hard; then a strong nose-throb.

F

most med/fine WoS snuffs give me a good burn, but i like the different burn of firedrac. agree on the viking dark.

P

Dholakia White, Rooster, Bruton, Red Seal, lotsa Vitamin N, nice burn

F

There is no snuff I have EVER tried that has a burn like FUBAR Bohica. But I do NOT enjoy it. I believe it is the snuff of Lucifer himself, for times when he is in a particularly foul mood.

C

I’ve been shoving snuff up my nose for a little while now, and I’m not sure “the burn” is the thing. Don’t get me wrong. I hammer HDT like a snuff crazed idiot at every opportunity and it still burns like hell, and I enjoy every damn millisecond of it. Thanks to those on this wonderful forum I finally tried my first Indian white, and didn’t much care for it, not because of the burn factor, it’s well made snuff, but it just didn’t float my boat. It did kick my ass. Thanks to @JakartaBoy‌ I’m waiting for my delivery of Sparrow, and hope it lives up to the reputation it’s earned around here. There are just those times I’m looking for the nicotine to whip me into submission without pounding my olfactory orifice into paste. Thankfully there are plenty of snuffs out there that fill the bill, fill my nose and fill my snuffbox without the dubious benefit of cauterizing my hooter into a smoldering cinder. I can’t think of any right now because I just shoveled a massive quantity of HDT up my hooter.

J

@chefdaniel‌, if Scotch is the American cousin to English toast, then Sparrow is the Indian cousin.

C

@JakartaBoy‌ For some odd reason I’m getting a craving for curry? I’m very much looking forward to Sparrow. It may just be my dream snuff. I also ordered the cool version just for the helluva it.

M

Hedges–love the burn in a clean nose.

J

@chefdaniel‌, hehe. I think my intake of Indian food has gone up since I’ve started taking Indian snuffs. You do need to select food carefully to complement your chosen snuff.

C

I also ordered the cool version just for the helluva it.

Sparrow Cool is excellent as well. They don’t go overboard with the menthol so it doesn’t obliterate the excellent tobacco.

R

Not exactly a burn, more of a delightful, cold sting for me; WoS extra menthol, I cannot promote it enough.

T

WOS Chili Chocolate *ugh*

F

For me for now its the Red Bull. But only if I don’t use it for a while and come back to it.

M

Bohica is the burningest snuff I’ve ever tried. After about a minute I had to flood my nose with ice water, and it still left an unpleasant burn. I guess some people like it, but not me. I like the slow, non chili burn of NTSU Black. That would by favorite burn, followed by 6 Photo Golden Natural.

M

I think @chefdaniel‌ said it best in this thread. I’m not a fan of an eye-watering snuff experience. I’ll tolerate the sting if it’s part of the fragrance (think Rose of Sharrow–the sharpness is part of the scent of a rose) but I don’t actively “seek” the burn. I am utterly unable to understand the marketability of Bohica or chili pepper snuffs in general and I love fiery foods. It seems supremely masochistic to search for nasal pain That said, I do like a snuff that lets me know it’s in the honker. I’m not looking for a non-sensual experience. But snuffs that hurt get discarded.

S

Taxi Red gets it going for me. No other snuff at present will both kick in and really let me know its there like the Red.

D

FT@T HDT does it just right for me …

M

DK St Omer gives me a very nice “burn”. Its not the unpleasant, brain destroying burn I get from Bohica, but rather something in the snuff, like salt or washing soda, I see tiny crystals when I decant, thats what I’m talking about! Its like a sting, the same sting you guys have written about. Also, if I blow my nose, I get a little sting from any snuff I take. Must be contact w/ the lining. And of course, everyones nose is a little different on the inside, just like the outside!

N

Motia. I used to relish using it on a clean nose. I’d have to blow about a minute or two later, then re-snuff. It was exquisite. Latest batch has almost no camphor anymore. >(

N

Oops. Should’ve been a “grr!” emoticon. Ah well.

N

@Franknsnuff‌ - I definetly reach for 6Photo Natural when I’m in for ‘The Ultimate’ burn. It’s just amazing! <:-P

E

Hedges burns like all hell and it’s my perfect wake-up snuff (granted I’m waiting on Dholakia White to be delivered. It may take the cake.).

B

grind up some ghost peppers for the ultimate burn . WARNING NEVER SNUFF GHOST PEPPERS

F

I’m wondering whether the burn I get from J&H Wilson’s SP No 1 has more to do with the fact I buy it from a local tobacconist. I suspect it’s really old dried out stock. I’ll try it fresh sometime.

C

I feel like there are a few kinds of burns to consider here. One the dryness of the snuff, then the nicotine content, and finally added flavors. I consider a good nicotine burn pleasant. But find incredibly dry, White Elephant, or Willie Pete, while exhilarating, not really that fun. Great for waking up. Then added flavors, they can have their own burn to them, last year I was adding all sorts of stuff to snuff, some very much increased made my face burn. It could have been considered something you wanted, I had to stop because it was too much flavor. As far as the Bohica is concerned, that is not the kind of burn that I wanted. Miserable, though I did feel like I was hallucinating because it got my adrenaline going. My favorite feeling is when I get in my truck on a freezing cold morning and take a huge pinch of Molens. It sends a rush tingling in my hair, that then tingles in my feet, for about half a minute and im ready to go! While lingering the fresh smoky sent of latakia tobacco in the air.

N

Last burn I had was a few nights ago… Silver Dollar Medicated… I did the Box Car method… Wrong thing to do, it sat right behind my right eye… I had to be quiet and not scream I didn’t want to wake the dogs or the wife… I have noticed a “sting” from some of my home grinds…

M

@coreymillia That bodily sensation is the very best when it happens! I used to feel that way whenever I had a pinch of HDT, but now it just happens to me with Viking Dark. I think that nobody who hasn’t ever taken snuff would believe that such strong sensations can come from the simple act of getting powdered tobacco to your nose. And that’s part of the reason I don’t like some strongly medicated snuffs i used to enjoy no more: because I think that what the snuff blenders behind them wanted was to produce an “imitation” of that kind of burn and refreshment that only the very best snuffs can provide, while at the same time maintaining a standard floor that could be easily mass produced.

T

Digging this thread from the grave because I was looking for a discussion on “the burn”

I’m currently taking big hits off my VIking Dark Rappee with a Czech tool and my goodness, this burns worse than any menthol I’ve had. What in the world makes these dark snuffs burn so much? Is it the saltiness? Or just the properties of the dark fired tobacco?

V

Just saltiness.

Pure naturally alkaline tobacco only burns milled to a fine powder.

V

Genuine J.&H.WILSON snuffs contained 12% salts (pH close to 10), this explains the burn. Their fresh products in vacuum-sealed tins had plenty of volatile ammonia, which added to the sting.

Sadly, the original formulas and the containers were changed by the new manufacturer. Now they are only a mere shadow of the former goodness.

C

In my short time using snuff, I can’t say that much has compared to the burn from Snuv’s Hemlock; it was one of the first snuffs I came across and found the intensity really appealing.
I keep meaning to get more of the Herbal range, but have too many others to work through before I should order any more.

C

Viking Dark, Viking Dark Rapee, Viking Scotch Dark so far. F&T Santa Dominica (somewhat). Strong medicated snuffs give a cold burn (not the same thing but related). Dry snuff can provide a very strong ‘tingle’ that requires a word that doesn’t seem to be in the English language. Enjoy all these sensations depending on mood. A lot depends on other snuff taken, time of day etc. If I am going for a burn/throb then being well hydrated with a clean nose prior provides a boost.
