Thai Herbal--any tobacco?

I’ve noticed that the Red and Purple Thai Herbal snuffs say they contain tobacco, then I read the Thai Yellow states that “These snuffs do not contain any tobacco.” implying that none of them have tobacco as an ingredient. I’m confused…

That may simply be a botched attempt at the english language.

Yeah. Actually, there was a thread about that. Someone posted a thread on how good the first one Mr. Snuff had. I was wondering the same thing myself. I’m pretty sure that they all contain tobacco.

Thanks. The red and purple blends are so strongly flavored I couldn’t tell if they had tobacco in them or not, :=\

I actually don’t think they contain any tobacco since those and the chinese herbal snuff are the only ones he sells on his amazon.com shop.

When Mr. Snuff introduced the other two herbals I inquired about this very subject:  none of them contain any tobacco.

OK, seem that would be the definitive answer, but I am still a bit confused because Msrsnuff list these ingredients in their description of the red and purple: “South Asia high-quality fermented tobacco, camphor of Borneo, Angelica, lovage, a combination of red lime.”

Yes it is confusing. At first I thought none of them contained tobacco. Then we were given the description above. At that point I thought they all contained tobacco. Then I wrote a short while ago to try to get a definitive answer. Here it is:

—Only the last one (Thai Herbal Yellow 13g) is non-tobacco herbal snuffs. The other two have tobacco inside.

We need to sort out the descriptions to make this more clear, since they are copy and paste jobs from the manufacturer.

Great! Thanks for the info. I was about to bring the bottle to the Thai restaurant and have someone there translate the label.

I just put in an order that had the chinese one and all three thai ones, I have no idea what to expect, but im so excited to get it

Oy vey!

@mouse…that would be great if you could have it translated. It would be interesting to know what it actually says.

@cstokes4…indeed. :wink:

I have the red and I do believe it contains fermented tobacco.

OK, we went to the Thai restaurant tonight and the waiter read the label on the Thai Purple but couldn’t come up with the English equivalent for the ingredients. He said it was for colds and sinus congestion. Well, at least I tried. Maybe I’ll try to find a Thai/English dictionary…

@Mouse…thanks for trying. Not surprising when you think about it. You would have to be totally bilingual to translate ingredients of most things i would think.

I think they have to state that it is tobacco free for eBay and Amazon to allow it to be sold. That being said, I think snuffers who can read between the lines will understand that the red and purple thais do contain tobacco. I haven’t tried them, but I am sure that if I did, I’d be able to tell pretty quickly if they were tobacco on not. Also, I agree with the above posters that translating fromThai is iffy at best. At worst, its totally confusing.

I just received my Purple Thai and my opinion is that there IS tobacco in it. Also I believe it was made in 1954. Old as I am, but still really really good, really unique, and to me, very relaxing and non clogging if done in small amounts. Its quite strong whatever it is. The glass bottle is thick, like Coke bottles from Mexico. Thats why I think its vintage. I don’t think Mr S or any other vendor would be up front about its age, but it sure seems 1950-ish to me. Maybe its because I was born back then…

I received Thai Herbal Yellow today. No, in this one there is NO tobacco clearly sniffable as not being present. Very easy to sniff. Have to get used to the bottle, powdering it on my handpalm and snuffing from there. Thai themselves use some kind of tube. The first thing I smell is something from the mint family. Must be spearmint. Then something like curcumine that is present in curry’s. And I can detect some dragon. There is also some angelica present but I never smelled that somewhere before. And some licorice and aniseed. The Yellow herbal snuff is refreshing, spicy, soft, absolutely not sweet more bitter. The label is unreadable since it is in Thai script. There seems to be much information on the label. Only chance indeed to go to an asian store to search for someone who can translate. In Thailand they call snuff “ya nut”, the website of the producer is http://www.mohmee.co.th/ but I warn you it is in unreadable script. Something to keep in my snuffs stock!

I can translate it for you

thank you but I cannot type the text in that alphabet. Maybe you can see something on this picture? Also something on top of the smell in this herbal snuff seems to be Sweetscented Bedstraw when I’m right. This snuff contains some rare herbs indeed.
