This 112-year-old Georgia woman doesn’t claim that Maccoboy has given her long life, but she definitely loves it: http://americustimesrecorder.com/local/x596125928/Americus-woman-enjoys-long-life-at-112-years

Good find! No doubt when she eventually passes they will say she was cut down in here prime by the tobacco habit.

Interesting. Once I was watching an interview with Dercy Gonçalves, a Brazilian actress who died with 101 years old in 2008. I do not remember how old she was at the time of the interview, but probably around 97. They asked her what was the secret to living so long, and she said she uses snuff every day…

GOD BLESS THIS LADY, so humble…great read… Thanks wondering of she chews the maccoboy or snuffs it?

Well it’s a good thing that I also take Maccoboy snuff.

I was going to try and get an address to send her some snuff but sadly, she passed away March 5th - but what a lifespan. I met a lady of 104 recently, in church, and you wouldn’t give her a second glance because she looked no more than in her late seventies; slim, elegant, upright and sharp as a tack. I don’t think she took snuff though, maybe I should have suggested it.

If I were looking for Maccoboy snuff, Georgia seems to be the place. Jimmy Carter’s memoir, “An Hour Before Daylight”, mentions his father selling Maccoboy snuff in his store, along with CC and Buttercup. There are references to people taking or asking for a “pinch” of maccoboy snuff–though people did/do dip it, I think it was primarily a nasal snuff, even in the U.S. I hope they haven’t stopped making it. My large bottle from Nicotine Rush has become dry and clumpy. Serves me right for not snuffing enough of it, I suppose. Jeanne Calment of France lived to be 121, and I recall reading that she attributed her longevity partly to handrolling her own cigarettes–she smoked a couple per day. She quit smoking at the ripe age of 113 or 114, not because of health concerns but because her eyesight got so bad she couldn’t light them herself.

Of course no one wants to hear someone passing away. In this case, You would think her service was a Joyous Celebration of Mrs. Leverett living to 114 years. Humble roots, and what a Triumph. Imagine a biography of her life compared to that excellent article. Thanks again for posting that @Mike_B @Abraxas, how much she would have appreciated CAFE 11, with her morning coffee mentioned. She knows now anyway. RIP Mrs. Leverett ( Miss Annie )

I’m kinda going off topic but @Mike_B I moved to Atlanta suburb ( Roswell ) bout 12 years ago and Maccoboy in the big brown bottles is available here in Smyrna, GA at Discount Tobacco on South Cobb Drive ( also alot of other American snuffs are available in this area) Southeast seems to be a hub for them, maybe because close to manufacturers ( but probably cause its roots have always partaked ) I never remembered seeing any snuff in local tobacconists in NYC, but recall some in the NEW HAVEN, CT area near Yale ( think it was called " THE OWL SHOP- tobacconists ) thru my recent research some hard to find brands like buttercup and navy can be had in North Carolina at grocers or supermarkets. I found SQUARE and Superior and Peach sweet at INGLES supermarket in WOODSTOCK, GA the other day, so between 3 locations in area about 15 AMERICAN snuffs are available. I am sure further south where MRS. LEVERETT lived some hard to find brands are available. I may drive south before going to North Carolina, maybe both ways. This Yankee gonna go on a redneck road trip for new snuff types soon. LOL

Taking a pinch of Maccoboy in this woman’s honor.

Me too, one year later…
