Mentioned these in a thread and thought maybe others would be interested. They are made from Steel, German silver, Brass, and Copper. http://www.tdcmfgstore.com/agora.cgi?product=Boxes http://www.tdcmfgstore.com/agora.cgi?cart\_id=9646252.26068&product=CopperItems
What a good find!
Man, the oval tinder boxes look awesome.
I wonder how tightly the lid on the snuff box fits. I wouldn’t want it popping off in my pocket. I am in the market for a snuff box and might just order one, if I knew that I could carry it around with me.
I like the look of the “1790 English Tobacco Box”, but it doesn’t look too snuff-tight.
Isn’t copper poisonous? :-/
All the water in my house comes in through copper pipes. It better not be poisonous! Can’t be as bad as lead I guess.
lids are friction fit. mine hasn’t came off in my pocket in 8 years that i have carried it. copper isn’t poison, but there is some toxicity in injesting large quanities, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copper\_toxicity edm
lol Xander
I don’t think snuff sitting in copper would ever amass large enough quantities of it to be any kind of problem. You probably would die of heavy metal poisoning from eating fish before you’d die from copper toxicity from snuff out of a copper box.
@mustangii Which one do you have? Are you talking about the snuff box?
I have a German Silver snuff box. http://www.tdcmfgstore.com/agora.cgi?cart\_id=9646252.26068&p\_id=B4S&xm=on&ppinc=search2 have had it for about 8 years, used it for Cope for 3 years till I changed to Red Seal, Since then I have carried tender fungus (Chaga) for Fire starting Demos for Boy Scouts. I am going to order a couple of the Pill boxes for snuff use because I can’t see useing that useing that much snuff in one day, lol. edm
Man those are freakin awesome! My wife loves my wood snuff boxes and she’d love to have any of those. Given the price I see a multiple purchase in the near future. Thanks for the heads up!
I’ve been through two brass and two german silver boxes in the last 25-30 years or so. The brass gets pretty grungy in your pocket. German silver holds up better. Doesn’t matter I suppose, I always misplace them after 6-7 years or so. The one actually called a snuff box. Ted does paste a warning label inside the cover, warning about toxicity. Never had a problem, don’t know about toxicity, but I didn’t care for the flavor the bare metal lent to my Fred Stokers plain. I put a cover sized piece of heavy drawing paper inside the lid, and a cleaned out plastic bottom from some oral snuff inside the bottom and used them that way for many years. Snuff kept quite well with no added taste. I don’t know about copper, but I do know that copper water lines used to have to be treated in some fashion that took a day or more before they were considered safe to use for drinking water. Least the U.S Military thought so. FWIW I always found Ted Cash’s products for the muzzle loading fraternity to be quality items and well worth the modest price. Recommend his products without reservation. Lest I forget, the one usually called an “English Tobacco Box” (the one with the hinged cover) is NOT tight enough to hold snuff. All the others, Cap boxes, patch boxes etc. are okay, the friction lids are tight Regards,
@gbrhys : do you know if the tinderbox with the little clasp mechanism is tight enough to hold snuff? thanks Dave
copper isn’t poisonious it’s green rust is poisionious. Or at least that is how I understand it.
Dave, No Sir I do not know whether the 1700 Tinder box will securely hold snuff without leakage. The problem with the English box is that the lip on the cover does not extend all the way back to the hinge side, in the catalog picture what might be a shadow is actually the missing portion of the lip. I’m sure any contact with the Ted Cash Company would answer that question though. Sorry I can’t be of any real help. Regards,
I had tender fungus once, but clean socks and tinactin cleared it right up.
lol, same fungus causes jock inch. edm
If you’ve only got an inch in your jock, you have bigger problems than fungus.
