The two go well together regardless, but some matches are practically made in Heaven. Garrett’s Scotch & Lapsang Souchong. Both are renowned for smokiness, but paired up, they’re amazing. Brings out flavours in both you never knew existed. Toque SP Extra & Twinning’s Four Red Fruits Tea. Four Red is probably my least favourite in the Twinning’s range, but the SP Extra gives it some character. (In other words, makes it a lot less of a Kid’s Tea.) F&T Old Paris & Formosa Oolong. Awe inspiring. Toque Lavender & Twinning’s Earl Grey. It’s actually a nicer fit than the SP Extra, as the Bergamot from both battle each other out leaving your senses numb to either one. More ideas?
Well, I swear by Toque SP Extra with Yorkshire tea, can’t say I’ve tried any other pairings as of yet, but I’m about to try the Garrett’s/Lapsang right now! EDIT: It’s really good!
I actually ran out of Lapsang over the weekend, due to being so good with the Scotch. Luckily, one of our local ‘over stock’ stores ended up with a mysterious shipment of the loose 100g tins. They also had Gunpowder Green. Sipping a cup of that one now. It has a complete lack of character, or my taste buds are unconcerned with subtlety. Can’t think of a Snuff that would improve it.
I thoroughly enjoy Gunpowder Green, its got a lovely smokey character.
Schmalzler with a rich, full bodied, strong Assam.
Now you’re talking, Debbie! Yorkshire Tea is hard to beat. Just make sure you get the hard water version - I know the water in London is hard just like it is here in Hull.
No fear, Tony - got an industrial-sized box of the stuff!
Earl Grey with any floral snuff. They really complement each other.
I like a strong scotch with an irish breakfast tea in the morning. Mcchrystals S’nuff goes really well with an earl grey I think. I also like a lemon flavoured snuff with green tea.
Every time I’ve gotten Yorkshire Tea in the States, it’s always the regular and not the hard water version that would work best with the ‘chunky style’ water I get here In New Mexico. Sad, as I have the official mug to put it in and a cousin that works for the company that makes it.
Nice!
I liked Toque Grapefruit with Lady Grey, myself.
Whats going on here with Yorkshire Tea? I was in Bettys the other day buying some Taylors English Breakfast and it seemed like a whole coach party of Americans had turned up to buy boxes of Yorkshire Tea in those silly little bags. True story! I’ve taken to drinking it as my usual tea actually, loose it is just insane how cheap it is and it’s drinkable!
Drinkable? It’s delicious!
Twinning’s Irish Breakfast and alternate pinches of Toque Toffee and Red Seal. Not sure which one it goes better with. Further investigation is needed. @Kunugaa Yorkshire Tea is prohibitively expensive in the States. Strangely enough, even PG Tips and Ty-Phoo cost more here than Twinning’s.
I must say, i am impressed by the flavour of Pu-erh tea. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pu-erh\\_tea There is a really great forum for learning more about teas called www.teachat.com
Oh and i drank it with one of my favorite snuffs in my nose: Gawith Hoggarth’s Eucalyptus.
Can’t beat Rington’s tea. Beautiful, strong, and lovely quality. It is in bags although you can get loose, but as I’ve said on another thread bagged tea in England is as good as loose. If there is a Rington’s driver near you get them to deliver your tea and coffee etc. It is the best tea I’ve tasted. Can’t be doing with all these obscure teas. Tea is tea. Get some of the proper stuff down you and you won’t want any of these ridiculous teas. Stefan
Pu-erh tea is in no way ridiculous @Walrus1985 if that’s what you’re suggesting though i’m not saying you are, it’s a work of art like a fine tobacco…
Czar Nikolas Tea and Latakia. http://www.therussianshop.com/russhop/samovar/tea2.htm
I quite like Pu-erh and many other teas. Tea is by no means just tea.
pu-erh like wine gets better with age. bagged tea, best used quickly. i love all tea and teasans the glorious drink and when combined with snuff makes for wondrous day
Any sp variation is lovely with tea, as is anything with honey, like Toque Whiskey&Honey. What it comes to tea, I stick to Irish blends, Barry’s and also Aldi store brand, which is made by Bewley’s, is excellent.
I love Toque Grapefruit with Darjeeling, but my usual morning tea and snuff is Pickwick’s Dutch Blend and Wilson’s Crumbs of Comfort, moving onto Toast No. 22. Another almost perfect mix for me is Earl Grey and Wilson’s Grand Cairo.
Hard to beat HOT tea with snuff. I like a hot cup of constant comment with a pinch or more of good ole Garrett sweet. ah the simple pleasures of life.
pu-erh is an amazing tea. It tastes like rotting mud but somehow it is very yummy.
I personally wouldn’t take any cue’s from an ignorant, racist, alcoholic, un-repenting sinner like Cheserton, but to each his own.
Yorkshire tea and Royal Yacht. A sure fire good start in the morning.
The Chesterbelloc cannot be decently rehearsed. From the above ‘And unconsciousness of sin;’ seems to be intended as describing a fault or failing. To my mind it is a most refreshing quality (especialliy these days - and provides a ray of hope for the human race), which brings me to tea which in England may be taken in bone china or tin mugs. It may be savoured or gulped down, by the pint. I don’t really mind how I take it. But I can’t somehow treat it with the respect that Chinese and Japanese people do, and I suspect this shows my comparitive coarseness in this respect as no doubt in others. I mix any kind of tea with any sort of snuff.
