TAJ?

Hi, I just looked at Mr Snuff, as I haven’t in quite a while, and now I see he has some 5 Photo’s, just 2, and what’s this? Dholakia Taj Naswar? Did I spell that right? Interesting, plus he has no other Dholakia’s listed. Of course he may still be moving/settling. But, what’s this Taj? Anyone had it? Darn, I am super stocked on snuff, and I can’t make an order for just this! Ugh.

I think That’s Another new snuff for the wish list. How about a review Mr Snuff.

I guess it’s not menthol? I like the traditional Indian snuffs. I wish Dholakia didn’t change their tin labels for international sales, I know it’s just a paper label, but the traditional Indian product design is one thing I really like too.

Wait and see if Dave gets anymore of hidden snuffs. I’m sure there is more to come.

Taj Naswar : Naswar"Naswar also known as Nass or Niswar is a type of dipping tobacco, made from fresh tobacco leaves, calcium oxide chuna, and wood ash. It is consumed in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sweden, and parts of India."

I have some coming to me in the mail. I’ll let you all know how it is.

Namrata once told us that Naswar is the Hindi word for snuff. Keeping in mind that Hindi is an Indo-European language, the word is no doubt related to “nasal” or “nose”. If it is used as “dipping tobacco” than it is the usage that has been corrupted, the same as in the USA. Now clearly most products labeled as “snuff” in the USA can not be snuffed due to the cut, moisture and additives. If Taj is snuffable, Pike will soon let us know.

My understanding is snuff is mainly used orally in India. So, even though, as a dry snuff, it can be used nasally as well.

Sadly this one went missing from my shipment :frowning: Hopefully I will get that straightened out as I was really looking forward to this snuff!

dam!

Finally got this in the mail today. The container is so tiny it makes me laugh! It’s 7g of snuff and it’s packed into a little plastic tub about half the size of a 35mm film canister. The label on the packaging is very cool as well (go India!) The snuff is very dark and a bit moist. If I pinch it, it ends up stuck in clumps to my fingers. I snuffed some off of a spoon and it is quite nice in the nose, actually. Very faint menthol, could just be a bit of mint flavoring. A fairly strong scent of jasmine and something else I can’t quite put my finger on. It smells a lot like walking into a little Indian import store that has a couple kinds of incense burning (common stores in the US, probably elsewhere as well). Due to the moistness of this snuff I will probably be trying it orally some time soon, but I will also keep on snuffing it! Now to crack open the Himalaya… edit: after opening the Himalaya, I noticed it’s very similar in consistency to Taj. Taj is a bit more moist though.

I just got a tub of Taj. A super big thank you to the kind sender. This is nice. Has a nice coolness, and a sorta sweetness to it’s scent. I like it. Very pleasant.

So the consistency is similar to 5 photo Himalaya? It sounds quite nice.

Gotta order some of this while it last. Dave, will you be getting in more of the Traditional Dholakias?

@cstokes4: most definitely. I have had an order in for a while with Dholakia. Still waiting for a Pro Forma so I can pay and get it shipped. Good reminder though…I will see whats going on. Dave

Of the traditional Dholakias, I think this Taj may be my favorite. It’s grind and moisture make it much easier to sniff, and it has a nice scent, and a cool underlay.

@Tom: Do you think it is Jasmine?

I really don’t know, not sure what Jasmine is like. I only did some yesterday for the 1st time. It seemed to have a sweetishness about it.

Taj is finally back in stock. HEREthanks Dave
