Swisher Maccoboy Railroad Mills snuff

A update from the states to those who care. I have been buying most of my snuff from MR Snuff across the pond and they have done a great job !!! Thanks… I have been almost exclussively buying all the Coffee black and Viking Dark and wanted to get some more Maccoboy. I have notice over the months the American snuffs selection have been dwindling down and guess this has a lot of factors. I still wanted some Maccoboy Mills and I wrote Swisher and load and behold a sales rep got back to me and stated they still sold it. He lived down the road and drop off a case at the Shell station last night and now I have have a case of Maccoboy Railroad Mills snuff. So the story is yes they still sell Maccoboy and there still is a God !!! Snuffmaster60… Have a great Huff on me …

I had understood that Maccoboy was no longer made?

I think that is an unsubstantiated rumor. I’ve heard that too (only here) but never from a confirmed source. Now we hear its not. Rumor mill… I have a good supply of it in my stash, but no long term source, as its not available locally. I can help with the demand side if Swisher is looking…

As you can see the rumors are false. I believe the biggest problem is Swisher reps dont know there products and dry snuff is not a priority. I just happen to get a local rep that knew what I was talking about and he made sure I received the snuff. It does help to live in the south, Ga…

I just got a 1962 unopened jar of this snuff, made by Lorrilard. Dried out and odorless, but a really coarse, dark brown snuff. I have it in rehydration chamber with a rose oil dipped q-tip in it, hoping it absorbs water and the rose. It looks like it was really good when it was new. Is the new Swisher stuff y’all are talking about like the snuff I described?

i have an old bottle of the Lorillard also. I also had to rehydrate mine, but it had retained its scent. It was some twenty years newer than yours is probably why. Its similar in many ways to the Railroad Mills, but not really identical. I have no idea how moist the original was, but it sucked up a lot of water, though sometimes you can over rehydrate. The grind is bit finer than RRMM and the scent a little different, though I can’t remember how at the moment and will have to rehydrate another batch to compare.

When I 1st did a tiny pinch, upon opening, I did detect a faint rose scent, but it was nearly gone. I should like to try a recent batch of it. Dark, coarse, with little clumps of white(salt). I put a q tip dipped in rose oil and toquin bean it in for 24 hrs, but it didn’t make it much better. Then I added grain alcohol which had cinnamon, and tonquin soaking in it, that fluffed it up a lot,too much actually, but it had a very strong alcohol odor. Airing it out overnight helped, now it is snuffable, but not like it originally was, sadly. I added a piece of lemon peel to it to see if that would help. I guess it is what you might call " a work in progress". I was thinking of adding a bit of Toque Rose to it to boost the flavor. I don’t think the rose oil I have is the stuff a real snuffmiller would use. Its called Victorian Rose, and is quite thick, looks like its for scenting candles or massage oil. Any suggestions you have would be appreciated. I don’t want to ruin it, but I don’t think I have the knowledge or skill to bring it back to it’s original condition.

I just had a dose from a bottle of Railroad Mills Maccoboy passed on to me from someone else here ( name eludes me at the moment ) - I like it .

@The_HP‌ Lucky you… At any given time I have around 15 - 20 different varieties of American snuff, but Maccoboy continues to allude me. Funny enough, just posted a request in the Snuffhouse Marketplace thread for this very snuff (and checkerberry as well).
