Hi I’m looking for suitable containers to store bulk Toque. Is a glass, preservation jar ok or does it need to be an opaque jar? Should I go for screw on lid or the pull-down snap type of lid? Metal, plastic or glass? These are what’s available at my local store: http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z24/OscarWabbit/8355e0b3.jpg http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z24/OscarWabbit/f3500f39.jpg http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z24/OscarWabbit/e34c4de4.jpg http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z24/OscarWabbit/c4e3d23a.jpg http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z24/OscarWabbit/27bbde9c.jpg http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z24/OscarWabbit/2012eab9.jpg I did feel like a bit of a Wally taking pics of jars in the supermarket Advice appreciated, thanks.
glass jars with the clasp lid and rubber gasket (the first picture) are what I use for my pipe tobacco and it’s kept stuff fresh for a year+. However, pipe tobacco has much more moisture than snuff. I’d venture to guess that those will be the best possible storage. it’s what I would use at least.
i have kerr and ball glass jars i am beginning to work with - like in the second picture - but probably the pic that pike is referring to would seal better. i would do that as well, but the mason jars were very inexpensive. i had read on the forum that glass is preferred, maybe due to certain tins rusting? question, Oscar … where were all those great containers being sold?
I use mason jars with the plastic seal lids. The keep snuff fresh for a long time
Wal-Mart has jars with plastic-seal lids that kind of snap in (w/o the clasps) which work very nicely as well.
The bail and clamp jars should be fine (in your first photo). Brown glass (or opaque) would be ideal, but not an issue if you store out of direct light. Its the UV that I think we are mostly concerned with. I don’t much like the large Wilsons drums, so I’ve transferred mine to a glass bail & clamp. The Wilson’s half drums are fine though.
