I need to mentholate half-pound (1/4 kilo) batches of tobacco. I read here on snuffhouse that a good way is to melt menthol crystals in hot water and stir that into tobacco. Any suggestions on how much gets used? I’m guessing a little is all that’s needed, maybe 500mg per batch. Also, I’m guessing that mixing it in an airtight container would be best. Not trying to mentholate my workroom :-).
From what I’ve heard on this subject, adding any of the actual menthol to tobacco is a terrible idea. Rather, the menthol crystals are apparently so strong that simply keeping crystals in a container with tobacco is enough to menthol-ize it. I have no personal experience with this and I have no idea how much is needed.
@Pike Mopers I agree. The stuff is incredibly concentrated in crystal form. Found it, noting it here for searches in case someone else looks. 0.5% to 0.65% by weight. About 1.4 grams per half pound.
I haven’t mentholated my snuff, but I’ve mixed my own eliquid. From that, I can speak from experience that attempting to add menthol to a plain snuff is NOT gonna work. You’ll ruin it.
