I’ve only tried one snuff so far - Poschl Alpina. It was recommended to me by a friend as a good way to get into snuff. I fell in love with the product, and want to expand my palate. I was hoping to get some suggestions that will allow me to try a number of different types of quality snuffs, so I can narrow down what I like and don’t like. I found the snuff stuffed up my nose a little, not sure if that was from the menthol or the snuff itself. Not really relevant, just thought I’d throw that in here as well
Viking blonde for noobs. Your nose will thank you! ( blonde is my go to )
Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll look into it!
Or do what you’ll eventually do anyways, order what catches your fancy. Besides, if you’re going to be serious about snuff you’re going to end up with a lot of snuff and a lighter wallet. Your best bet is to order one of the various kinds of snuff: floral, menthol, plain, SP, KB, schmalzler, scotch and expand from there.
What do SP and KB mean?
SP is a type of fine/medium ground snuff with a “standard” aroma; what SP stands for is a mystery to all. KB stands for Kendal Brown which is a coarse almost plain tobacco except for the sweetest of scents in the background, it’s also one of my favorite types. You must understand that just about every snuff company does its own version of the different types of snuff. Thats why I always think when beginning snuff its better to determine what snuff catches your eye either by simply the name or flavors or descriptions and then cross reference them by the reviews of them on snuffhouse using the Search feature as opposed to randomly asking opinions, not that anyone hear would steer you wrong, merely because we all have different tastes, but, in the end, as I said, if you’re serious about snuff you’ll end up with all or most of them anyways, as I have. so begin with the basics and go from there, imo.
Alright. I was just hoping to get a basic feel for different types and flavours, but you’re probably right. There are a lot of choices, it’s confusing at first lol. So far I’ve got: F&T Prince - 25 g - Seems like a good basic tobacco, with a floral aspect. I’ve always wanted to try F&T. Bernard Brasil Doppelt Fermentiert - 10 g - Appears to be the classic Schmalzler, and I like the descriptions/package. Viking Blonde - 25 g - Looks like a HDT designed for noobs, and that sounds perfect to me.
Hey, that’s a great start. Yes there are lots to choose from and it can be confusing, but youll be alright and we at snuffhouse will be happy to aid you in any way.
Another acceptable option is to check out the ‘bundles’ on Mr. Snuff. Several options and can even get a little bit of a discount. Give it a look see.
Let me follow up on what @stogie said : For my first order I got to bundles, a 12 pack of 3.5g tins of McChrystal’s , and a 12 pack of 5g tins from Wilson’s of Sharrow. With shipping to the US it came in just over $50. To me it was money well spent - I ended up with 21 different snuffs ( there was minor duplication on the McChrystal’s ) and it allowed me to have literal DAYS of experiencing new snuff, at my leisure, for a pretty low investment.
A number of options for bundles… the newbie, party animal, SP, floral, coffee, chocolate Barbarossa… etc. etc.
@stogie I find that a lot of the bundles contain a lot of shit snuff, though. Lol
Well @saucy_jack I am not in disagreement here. True that not everything is a totally great choice, but isn’t that true across the board? I know that I have tried any number of snuffs that I have read about and hoped would be totally grand, only to find the hype a bit inflated. But I have also found, as have many others that over time my tastes change, the ‘rough edges’ round off or whatever, and then on revisiting many of them - hey, not so bad. so… I still hold, that for a newbie just stretching their wings, a bundle gives variety (god/bad/indifferent) while at the same time at least allowing for a discount. It would be nice (if impractical) if you could adjust what is in the bundles… But I do not think I should hold my breath. That way if there was something in there you knew was bad Juju for you you could avoid… Oh well…
Yeah, I pretty much agree: bundles contain great, good, not so good and bad, but any selection of snuff is bound to be the same, at least for me. Even snuffs that are valued by most members here as powdered gold fail to find a place in nose, not to say in my rotation. Of the 100 or so varieties I’ve ordered during my snuffing career, I’ll only reorder about 12 or so, and not all with the same enthusiasm. I prefer to go my own way for several reasons, though, but I have to acknowledge that there are several very interesting Mr.Snuff and Snuffstore.de bundles that offer good value for money.
@stogie @MarvinLapsus You guys are great! You made my morning, really!
The only snuff I got from the bundles I was a bit down on was the McChrystal’s Anisette, but then again I am no fan of licorice or black jelly beans - the Anise is no friend to me … yuck …
Actually the Viking Dark is awesome too, has become one of my go to’s as well as the SG Kendall Browns… and loving the Toques as well…
