I just received my Mr. Snuff order which included 2 tins of Toque snuffs. Both tins were just a couple more bumps away from coming unscrewed, they were literally hanging on by their last thread. One tin, chocolate smells anything but the delicious deep chocolate aroma that I love so much, it actually smells so much like a floral/fruity scent, one could believe the tin to be misprinted. I am not going after a refund or replacement for this 10g tin, I am just trying to illustrate the reasons behind my simple suggestion…to prevent scents from contaminating Toque as well as possible opened/leaking snuff - how about a simple piece of tape on the tins such as WOS tins?? Am I the only one to receive tins of Toque nearly opened upon delivery?? If so…disregard As the title states, this is merely a suggestion, not a complaint…I still love Toque
The last time I made an order directly from toque, each tin was in an individual sealed bag. So… you want fresh? Order direct. Not saying anything negative about mrsnuff shipping as I’ve never had a problem other than a few dented tins which wasn’t their fault… but yeah… order toque direct.
Roderick Please make a Banana snuff with no menthol or cinnamon .!.
Toque uses only natural flavours and a decent banana flavoured snuff can’t be made without using artificial flavours.
Isomyl acetate (CH3COOC5HII) sounds natural to me ! Sweet and fruity esters . Yum !
Good to hear Roderick!! Thanks for the response!
You could try reducing cider down to a syrup. I keep meaning to experiment with that.
Lilac
A cider reduction for snuff. Interesting. Or the right reisling might fool most people
@Pot Poe Oh my gods, Lilac…I can’t even keep my nose out of the lilac fabric softener my wife buys! lol
I’ll second the Lilac (again). I’d probably buy kilos of it.
@Snuffster Certainly an apple snuff need not smell of apples. The fact that a snuff was made with apples is enough. It seems @Roderick is pinned down to having his snuffs smell the same as they are named.
You know what @Juxtaposer , you may be onto something here. I don’t like champagne , but i love the champagne snuff which in my head smells nothing like the drink.
Another vote for Lilac, though a quick search for lilac essential oil or extract turned up nothing food-grade…anyone know a source?
@Juxtaposer - maybe I’ll do it for the next one. No idea if it would work in snuff but there’s only one way to find out.
CLOVE AND A CAMPHORATED PLEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEE!!! Sorry for shouting lol, but 3 years and still none of the above . I’ll be patient Roderick ;-).
Stefan
I can see you travelling to Berwick and ambushing him at work with seasonings!
Popcorn if possible.
How about a Hop flavour?
Lol @bish I’m a bit strapped for train fare at the minute, but would if I could lol
Stefan
Medicated Green Apple, an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Edit: after looking above, I see you wouldn’t be able to do apple, though a strong green apple scent shouldn’t be hard to come by.
I would think flavoring with apple brandy would be possible…
Scrumpy cider maybe (even if subtle)?
Apple brandy would be a very expensive ingredient for a company that makes as much snuff as Toque do. Also, without de-naturing it it would be quite a harsh, fume rich flavour. You can never tell though until you have tried it, it has to be said.
Scrumpy is an interesting idea. I think it would need boiling down to an alcohol free syrup because it probably wouldn’t have a strong enough taste - or the taste would be a bit too sour. Might be good with the sweet version of ‘legless but smiling’ from Callestock farm in Cornwall, though.
Thank’s, yeah it would be cool to see someone try it. I wonder if it would end up kind of like Toque Champagne, or more fresh-fruity…
I might just experiment with this because I love cider.
@Snuffster why not try a home brew cider kit. That is just concentrated apple juice.
Snuffster- yeah you should do that! Abraxas Cider House?
@theratroom - I only use whole products in my snuff, so a cider one would have cider in it in some form, but it would be organic high quality cider. A brew kit would have stuff like sodium metabisulphate in it, which I would never have in an Abraxas snuff. If it’s not 100% edible and unadulterated it’s not useable. This is why Roderick stays clear of some potential snuffs because making them would require extraneous chemicals.
@Snuffster fair enough I never thought about the fact it would have preservatives in it.
Although preservatives are not unheard of as being used in snuff, it is good to see contemporary snuff makers not using them.
Maybe we should start a growing collective. It would be nice to have control from seed to tin.
I recently checked out my toques again. I sold all of them to my friends except the Pomegranite and Absinthe. I used to never be able to snuff toque because I was a newbie used to Poschls and I would always get the snuff in my throat and cough up a storm. I guess I became accustomed to english snuffs and I am absolutly in love with the pomegranite and absinthe toques. I made sure i kept those two because regardless of getting it in the throat they were my favorite scents.
I buy all my snuff from MSS, but when I ordered directly from Toque (10 for the price of 9 or somthing) the packaging was immaculate with each tin in an individual perfect fit zip lock bag. The package was the perfect size to accomodate 10 tins without them bouncing around in there. I really love MS, but there are some things that should be purchased exclusive to the company/dealer. Another example of this that I recently noticed is the MS Poschl boxes. buysnuff.co.uk and its sister website snuff.me.uk both have better box deals for poschl and have been doing it for a while. Thats where I get my boxes of FC Bayern. However sometimes MS does have a better deal, such as their Radfords Premium. Buying a box of 10 from buysnuff.co runs you about 4.85 and right now MS has them on sale for 4.54. even though its not by box of 10, i guess u can just order 10 tins. I know snuff.me and buysnuff.co fill the tins upon order to guarentee freshness.
Back on topic, Toque is an excellent snuff and its a shame you got a bad tin. I know that Toque is very consumer friendly and you might be able to get free samples if you talk to Roderick
I have been fortunate in never having a problem with the snuff I have received from either Mr. Snuff or Toque.
A dint to a tin here or there but I don’t consider that a problem. It’s the contents that are important to me.
I do look forward to the new 10 gram tins. They will make great snuff boxes for refilling.
I’ve been thinking about how SP’s with their bergamot flavoring are similar to earl grey tea iin addition to clove and liquorice flavors also being common to snuffs and teas and was thinking it would be cool if someone made a rooibos scented snuff especially if it were with vanilla.
I don’t think rooibos would be able to stand out against the tobacco scent.
a nicer looking label on the tins
An honest to goodness coarse, dark grind. please.
An honest to goodness coarse, dark grind. please.
Funny I was going the complete opposite direction with thinking that a very finely ground, high nicotine, white snuff would nicely complete his lineup.
