Study proves a lifetime of snuffing is safer than 30 days of smoking

This is excellent: "For the average smoker, the study finds, smoking for just one more month poses a greater health risk than a lifetime of using one of the increasingly popular low risk products like snuff, snus, the new electronic imitation cigarettes, nicotine lozenges, or some other non-combustion alternative. Switching products is a strategy known as “tobacco harm reduction.” “It has long been known that while no nicotine product is completely harmless, harm reduction products pose only about 1% the risk from smoking,” says Dr. Phillips, “and this difference is so great that for the average smoker, using a smokeless product for the rest of his life poses about the same risk as 30 days of continuing to smoke.” " “The new study, which also looks at some of the history and politics of tobacco harm reduction, suggests that efforts to promote abstinence as the only healthy choice may be killing thousands of smokers per month. Discouraging switching causes the deaths of far more smokers than could ever die from using low-risk nicotine products for their entire lives.” http://www.prweb.com/releases/2009/11/prweb3138264.htm

I think with the proper marketing and PSA’s the number of smokers could be reduced tremendously, maybe even so much as 50%. It’s a shame that there’s so much red tape. Even if governments had a mission to improve the health of the populous it would probably take a generation to change that many minds. I’d surmise with the prevalence of the internet and world communication it will eventually happen on it’s own though as we evolve as a species.

Thanks lincolnsnuff and bigblue1, Great find and read, very interesting! I also saved the article for furture use.

how many smokers would jump on the chance to contiune tobacco and be able to say I’am not killing myself.

I’m sure plenty would. I did.

me too.

Yeah, I did too. I mean I quit smoking for six months but I think that if I didn’t get into dip I’m all but convinced that I would’ve eventually started smoking again.

30 days!? I see it though without needing to be graphic. Hoping to quit soon.
