Strasbourg is a complex snuff with various different scents coming through - floral notes, slight citrus, and mainly a spicey cinnamon-like fragrance, which welcomingly lingers for a long time. While it’s a strong scented snuff, with a medium towards fine grind, it’s actually quite soft and relatively easy on the nose, even quite comforting (ironically, I found Wilsons’ Extra Crumbs of Comfort quite harsh!) Some people describe Strasbourg as a floral snuff, some as a flavoured SP - I would say it’s in a league of its own.
Marvelous! Its quite amusing all the flavors reviewers are guessing are in this one. Sheffield Exchange lists the flavoring as Citron Spice. Citron is a distinct citrus fruit. It is not lemon, nor bergamot. Its main use is in its rind (both the zest and the pith) for flavorings and scentings. Its not normally a food fruit. The “spice” side of this refer to that zest, though my nose keeps telling me there is a touch of cinnamon or soemthing in here. Many reviews are also calling this a floral snuff. Its quite possible that there is a family resemblance to the antique “Violet Strasbourg” that was a favorite of Martha Washington. This snuff is probablya decendant of an older style. I’m pretty sure its violet or absolute of violet (which is the distillation of the flower’s foiliage) giving that floral component. This is a highly fragrant SP, using the most piquant of citrus flavors. One thing is clear, and that is this snuff polarizes the reviews into love or hate. For me, this is so magnificent, its one to get and keep in bulk. Rating: 5/5 First tried: August 2009 Style: highly perfumed SP Grind: demigros Moisture: medium
