I received a very fresh order of snuff. It smells strongly of ammonia and fresh tobacco. I am storing most of this for later consumption in glass jars that can be vacuum sealed. My question is do I immediately seal it? Or should I air it out till the ammonia odor is gone and then proceed to jar and seal? Thanks knowledgable snuffers.

Ammonia odor is the tobacco curing, it won’t harm to vacuum seal right off. You’ll want to keep the snuff to it’s original moisture level. When you open your sealed snuff you can air out what you will be using. Snuff loses moisture and scenting when exposed to air.  Ammonia odor will dissipate in a short time. Some snuffer enjoy the odor.
I never found the need to vac seal; my snuff is many years old and still fresh in airtight glass jars. It is a matter of preference, it is your snuff do as you like.
