Storage of American Scotches

Hello everyone! Once again, I have contracted a bad case of Tobacco Acquisition Disorder, and can’t seem to buy enough of my favorite American scotches. I’ve got about 10 oz. of them total, and I was wondering how long they would keep if still in their jars? Some have plastic jars, and others have cardboard jars with metal lids. Does that make a difference? How long will they keep if I’ve opened them, but keep the lid on and stored in a dark, dry area?

I’ve got a large collection of US scotches and I’m working on the theory they will be just fine in their original containers for years due to how dry those snuffs are.

Believe it or not they can get drier. The ones in the plastic snap closed tubs will probably be good for a long time, but any in cardboard/metal I’d decant into something airtight if you’re keeping them long term.

These non air tight containers also will suck in scents , so if you have moth balls in the closet, or some drunk chic thinks its the bathroom. Best safe then sorry! Check your recycle bin there is probably a glass jar with a lid you can use.

I use Swisher scotches and the plastic tins keep them forever fresh. I buy the a case at a time and don’t really rotate but have never had one get stale.
