Stop and smell the flowers, guys?

When I started snuffing again a few months ago I thought I was to manly to use a floral snuff. That was for old fashion guys with tights, a lace hankie in their cuff, and ambiguous sexual preferences. Now I don’t mind saying proudly “I like florals”. What do you think guys? Now, if I could only shake that pretentious feeling when I live in redneckville USA and I’m snuffing F&T with a silver spoon and using an imported english hankie.

I love floral snuffs. Most of my favorites are probably floral. I didn’t like them much at first either, both the flavor of them, and the fact that I didn’t think they were manly. Now I wouldn’t want to go a day without a few floral snuffs in my nose.

George Washington bred 'em. http://www.defenselink.mil/home/features/2008/0708\_symbols/rose.html

Well, Jarhog, your ancestors in Redneckville, USA are part of the reason for snuff’s decline in the USA. All that pinching and the other “dandy man” type behavior was considered very effite or “fru-fru”. It was associated with English and French aristocracy and derided. Hence by the early 19th century snuff taking evolved into dipping in the South and rural areas and was practically forgotton in the North and urban areas. Hopefully all this is changing and snuff is on the comeback. Using a silver spoon and an imported handkerchief just means you have taste, class and style. You need to get over the “effite” image. Remember, smoking cigarettes with a filter was once meant for women. Now its commonplace. As for florals, I was also surpised how much I would love them. Some people do not, as they can be a bit too perfumy. I have Kendal Fleurette and English Rose here and I like both. Not all day snuffs, but maybe once or twice a day. Also, the English Rose is the one that is given to the House of Commons in England, and there have been some roughneck types that have passed through those halls. I’m not sure which snuff is supplied to our Congress, I highly doubt its an imported one though. Certainly not a floral. Pushing this thread a little further, I have a few citrus trees here. A lemon, a lime and an orange. The orange is not doing so well as it had a bad year. However the lime is blooming its head? off. The lemon is dong well too, but is smaller and younger so has fewer flowers. Walking into their room is heavenly! The whole room’s air is perfumed with their sweet smell. Of course I’m hoping they all bear fruit, but I’d sure like to take a few of those flowers and scent some snuff with it. Does anyone have some tips on this, and know what snuff would work best? I only want to do a little bit.

George Washington breeding roses! That puts a rather manly spin on gardening… (Ive been watching the HBO miniseries of John Adams lately so I can picture George himself (well, ok the actor which plays him :p)) pottering around amongst his roses and tobacco plants quite clearly :stuck_out_tongue: I too like the floral snuffs; WoS jasmine, carnation and the many ones with bergamot in particular…Ive been wanting to try wallflower for a while now! Im not sure whether the spicier ones such as Burgundy and French Carotte would class as florals per se, but they are absolutely amazing snuffs. I wonder if the women who have recently joined the forums are also fans of the florals?

@ oaxaca: Is John Adams on HBO again? My mother in law taped parts 1-4 for me when it was on last year. I just watched them, but I really need to see the rest.

I know there’s already a thread on this but I thought I bring it back up for the newcomers: http://arthurshall.com/x\_2006\_tobacco.shtml I like ganga and kamal, but mostly to “freshen up” after sniffing a scotch.

@miamimark: Bah! Machismo klaptrap! I use tobacco (in whatever form I like) for the magical pleasure it brings. I never once thought it made me “manly”. I don’t need any reasurances in that department. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

@xander - you can scent snuff with fresh flowers by putting them together in a closed container. After a couple days, remove flowers and sample snuff. Let snuff dry out and repeat until you obtain the level of scenting you desire. Trout sent me some honeysuckle snuff based on toque natural last year that he had made by this method. It was superb.

I also love floral snuffs, reminds me of the beautiful young ladies of my youth!

A rose scented snuff was supplied to the Senate to fill those historic boxes and Henry Clay was as famous for his Maccoboy as for his oratory. It would have been a very foolhardy act to even suggest that he was the least bit fufu.

Thanks guys, I never thought of it as an extension to gardening. I alway thought of gardening as a vary manly activity like farming. I had an uncle that was a rose champion at the state level most years. He was amazing with the ladies. It did not hurt that he also made jewelry. I still ware a charm that he made. Women seem to be drawn when i do.The man was 92 when he died and I inherited his house. When I was cleaning things out, I found a half used pack of condoms and info on safe sex from the senior center. I can only hope I can get it up at 92. Thanks guys for a different perspective.

just get t he rednecks to try it. probably will work.

@ snuffgrinder: Do you think it was Tube Rose? Are there any other floral American snuffs? Yes, Henry Clay. He was still in the early 19th cent. before oral snufftaking supplanted nasal. There is a Henry Clay bridge about 1/4 mile from here

plus it’s more manly not to give a flying shit about what is manly! Look at Prince for gobs sake.

It’s about being cosmopolitan and well cultured. They call it metrosexual, but it has nothing to do with sexualaty.

Hey Jarhog, I feel like an idiot for asking you this but why do you always confuse the words deferent & different? (lol) You always use one when you obviously mean the other. I know you’re an intelligent guy cause I’ve read your posts. Deferent is to defer to someone… be deferential… back off… give way. Submit. There’s a big difference in the meanings of these words. Now you know the difference. You may not give a sh%t, but I feel better now. I’m happy.   (…and, I meant no offense, hope you know). Rob

RobMe - Hay, I don’t spell worth a flip so I use the spell checker and it leads me wrong some times.

qws sandalwood is the most floral snuff i’ve tried so far and also railroad mills maccoboy, and i love them both. (I consider myself to be quite manly) lol…

Also i grow veggies for a living, kind of a small farm type setting and one of my biggest prides is my flower bed. So i guess that explains it for me.
