I recently got a tripletech snuff box, and the lid is very sticky. It doesn’t slide open smoothly… Sometimes I can’t even open it all the way. Anyone have this problem before and know how to fix it?
It’ll loosen up with use. What kind of wood is it? And don’t say the morning kind, lol. I have a cherry one and it is very snug fitting.
It’s walnut. The first day or so it was really smooth, but all of a sudden I can hardly get it open… It makes loud creaking noises in very jerky movements when it does move. Also, the side sliding lid is super smooth still.
The wood sometimes expands and contracts, depending on the humidity and such. Also, is the lid on backwards? Might check that.
What snuff have you in it? Why I ask is that I have five PC boxes and one of them, if I put damp snuff in the lid will slide open in my pocket. So you may want to try a damp snuff in it.
@matsnuffs Hmm, nope it’s not on backwards as the inlay is perfectly centered. I think if it were on backward it’d be more to one side. @SnuffHead first I had toque rose in it, once that was depleted I put McC O&G in it. As of now it’s empty. Maybe when I get home it will be fine, we’ll see! Thanks for the feedback!
Is it on upside down? haha! Use beeswax as a lubricant.
Never thought of a lubricant… hmm… On the bridge of violins we use pencil marks to lubricate the strings on the wood. Could I maybe use that? Though I’m not sure if I want graphite that close to my snuff… Maybe I’m paranoid lol
Candle wax works really well
THIS WILL WORK.
Wow, I just used candle wax as @bakdoor suggested. Works wonders! Smooth opening and closing! Thank you!!
@Gimpy1261 I will remember that, because I have a few tubes of Burt’s. Thanks
