I’am making an order soon and I know I need to pick up one of the sterneckers. I’ve read the reviews and no help as far as making a choice for which one to grab first. So I thought I’d ask for opinions and recomendations on these. I’am leaning a little more towards Straubinger but I don’t know. Also it would be cool to hear more opinions on this brand.
Bob, I’ve only had the Echt Fresko the grind is much softer and lighter than the Bernard or Poschl Schmalzler’s of which I have 5-6 different ones. I get a lot of dark chocolate and tobacco when snuffed and to me only slightly sweet or fruity, it seems other folks get more sweetness than I do. It’s not a Brasil Doppelt Fermentiert but a unique taste all its own I think, If you generally like Schmalzler’s you’ll probably enjoy this as well.
My experience with schmalzlers is really limited and I’ve decieded that I must change that. I know which other schmalzlers I will try soon but the sterneckers seem the most appealing to me but which one I should try first is the problem. Either way if I don’t figure it out I’ll just flip a coin or some such thing. The descriptions I’ve read of the sterneckers all sound great.
My favorite schmalzler is Bernards Aecht Altbeyescher Schmalzler, second is Paschl Perlesreuter and third is Sternecker Echt Fresco. If you know what the first two are like that gives you some reference. I have tried the Stabenger and it is all right, but I like the Echt Fresco better.
Very helpfull so far thanks guys
although I do like Sterneckers, i believe that Bernards Kardinal/Virginie is a better buy. There’s more to them then Sterneckers. Sterneckers seem very one dimensional, but that’s just my opinion.
I’ve only had Echt Fresco as well. It reminds me a lot of Feinster Kownoer, only better.
Good narrowed it down to two out of three which isn’t bad. Though that could change any moment.
Go with Fresko. Be mindful that the Sterneckers are much more natural tasing overall than Pöschl or Bernard. I think you’ll like it, bob, but some people might prefer more sweet or rich ones from other companies.
yeah the more natural thing is what made me think that would be a good place to start. I’am sure I’ll like it. I’am sure I’d like the others too. Cool I think I will go with the fresko.
yeah, i like the shit that tastes like shit but shit is more natural than some of the things on this board. remember that.
huh???
Be mindful that people have different tastes. What’s natural to others is plain and boring to another, that’s all. lol
I thought so. Right now with the schmalzlers the extreme ends seem to be the most appealing the most natural and the least. Definatly is a good thing there are diffrent tastes.
Sternecker’s is a very good snuff. I have all 3 of them. I simply think that Bernard’s Kardinal/Virginie is a pair of snuffs more complex in aromas, that’s all.
of the 3 your favorite is?
Straubinger Schmalzler, is my favorite sternecker. the other two, eckt fresko and fresko, don’t match up to the Bernard’s varieties that i mentioned earlier. but that is just my opinion.
it’s down to the fresko or the straubinger. Is the one I’d pick off the top of my head but I’am still damn close to fliping a coin.
Oh, hurry and decide, bob. The suspense is killing me.
you’d better hurry, bob. xander doesn’t do well with suspense.
Friday that’s when I’ll know for sure. Cause that’s when I’ll be placing my next order.
I just took a pinch of the Fresco. It’s a little spicier then the Straubinger is. Mmm good tobacco! The physical softness and the light weight of the flakes are very appreciable. I haven’t been shopping lately but there still may be a difference in bag sizes for those two. That might help you decide.
Well at least I know either way I’ll be happy with it so that’s good.
Well if no one orders the last of the one I now know which one I’am going to try.
Straubinger Schmalzler is the one. Gonna find out sometime soon. Order has been made.
also trying some ntsu black. Not gonna dry it out first either.
bob Open the tin, and with out smelling it, immediately grab a copiously large pinch and ram it home. I tried it, and about fell over. I Love South African snuff!!!
I can’t wait to try it. I’ll definatly tell everyone what I think when I try both. The other snuffs on my order are some of my longtime favorites (ones I should order in bulk when I can).
Just got my Mr. Snuff order today. Nice packaging. I have to say I love all the snuffs I’ve got. Four of them are standards for me. The two new ones are both the bomb. Staubinger is great. Not as coarse as I thought it would be but I have to admit it’s awesome. Very oily and wonderfull. Ntsu is also great. If you haven’t tried this one you’re missing out. From what I can tell its more earthy then most schmalzers but still has a raisiny fruitness that isn’t in your face but definatly in there. I get mainly a tobacco scent but very modified in a kind of nutty way. Reminds me a lot of what toasted nuts smell like when they’ve just been in the oven long enough to release aroma. It sits comfortably in the nose. Even though it feels filled up with snuff it’s not very clogging like I assumed it would be. Plus it blows out really easily too. Wonderfull snuff for sure.
