Hi everybody! Just a quick post to let you know that The Snuff Taker’s Ephemeris Volume IV hit the stands today. We’ve also shipped all pre-orders today, so expect your copy within the next couple of days (or weeks, if you’re in the UK.) If you’ve yet to order, we have a VERY LIMITED number of the special Halloween Cover editions still in stock. Once we run out of those, we will be shipping out the regular edition cover in its place. You can order here: http://www.stephemeris.com/volumefour.html I personally think this is our best issue to date. One of my favorite articles in this Volume coincidentally is the beginner’s primer penned by none other than Mr. Abraxas himself, Snuffster. Other articles include a retrospective on the legendary Type O Negative, Gillian Bromley’s continuing memoir of her career at the J&H Wilson Mill, the final part of our Swedish Tobacco Museum tour, and another Pulitzer-worthy exposé by James Walter- this one concerning the controversial new HIV tobacco vaccine that is being lambasted by anti-tobacco groups and the pharmaceutical industry. The regular columns that were missing from our last issue are also back, along with a Halloween-themed diatribe from Mr. Bill Johnson. Be sure and check it out!

HIV vaccine…I hadn’t even heard of this before! I have heard of the Cuban lung cancer vaccine in the works though…sounds like this is going to be a solid issue!

M

Looking forward to a Mr. Bill Johnson article!

giaach brought up our delivery system for e-copies: The program we use to mail out e-zines is, in a word, finicky. Sometimes it delivers the copy instantly, and sometimes there is a delay of up to an hour or two. I think the longest delay was six hours or so. But eventually it always goes through. If you haven’t received your copy in 8 hours, drop us a line at thesnufftakersephemeris@yahoo.com and we’ll take care of it. We still have a couple of cases of the Halloween cover if anyone’s interested. I don’t think we’ll be trying the two-cover thing again anytime soon- our readers prefer the standard cover in a 5:1 ratio over the limited edition cover! Overall sentiment seems to be that it doesn’t “match” the design of the first three Volumes, and it looks out of place on the bookshelf.

I stopped reading comic books when they started playing the “variant covers” game. Seems lke they were trying to exploit their own readership that wants one of everything.

I thought the Halloween cover would be to scary for me so I opted out. Besides Halloween is fricken over already.

S

I didn’t look close enough to see there was a choice I just hit purchase. So Halloween it will be for me. Which is fine

M

It is a shame one didn’t produce a snuff taking Santa in rockwellian garb cover.

@Xander: I wasn’t crazy about that trend in comics either. Not that I have anything against a choice of covers or I feel a need to own every single variant edition, but it always seemed like the nicest cover was the limited edition variant that the retailers jacked up the price on simply because it was “limited.” We solved that problem by not making the limited edition cover available anywhere but our own website and at the same price as the regular cover. The main reason we did two different covers was as an experiment. We wondered if we should stray from our traditional design pattern and try something new, but still keep a familiar design option open for the folks that didn’t want to try “New” Coke. Our readers voted with their wallets by opting almost unanimously for the regular cover. But regardless of which outer cover you choose, the other cover is included as well on the following page. That way nobody misses anything important.
