Happy St. George’s Day to one and all… Today I’ll be mostly snuffing English Rose! Ta-Ta Tim
Hmmm… tricky! Having got the IHT No 22 in the post from you this morning I’m tempted to go with that, however unpatriotic! The alternative will be Tom Buck. I reckon that is suffciently English. Mind you, the really important day is August 1st - Yorkshire Day. The day to be snuffing Wilson’s (either firm) all day! No hardship there! - Tony
It’s Royal George and George IV for me, they will be in my pocket all day and tonight.
Never tried either of those… so much snuff, so little time!
what is st. georges day…? ^^
St George is the patron saint of England. Just like St Patrick for Ireland, St David for Wales and St Andrew for Scotland.
ah…ok… i will have a whisky at his health then. (a scottish one. is that a bad thing to do?)
Gin or rum might be more appropriate… Having said that, I prefer whisk(e)y, preferably a decent malt, Scotch or Irish. You can tell I’m having a quiet day at work!
but i have no rum or gin here. and i am not willing to pay korean prices for imported rum or gin. (something like 20 br pounds or more for a small bottle.) its whisky then. (btw was not the advent of cheap gin resposible for the decay of british society in the 17/18 century)
Shakespeare. Henry V - Act III, Scene I Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more; Or close the wall up with our English dead. In peace there’s nothing so becomes a man As modest stillness and humility: But when the blast of war blows in our ears, Then imitate the action of the tiger; Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood, Disguise fair nature with hard-favour’d rage; Then lend the eye a terrible aspect; Let pry through the portage of the head Like the brass cannon; let the brow o’erwhelm it As fearfully as doth a galled rock O’erhang and jutty his confounded base, Swill’d with the wild and wasteful ocean. Now set the teeth and stretch the nostril wide, Hold hard the breath and bend up every spirit To his full height. On, on, you noblest English. Whose blood is fet from fathers of war-proof! Fathers that, like so many Alexanders, Have in these parts from morn till even fought And sheathed their swords for lack of argument: Dishonour not your mothers; now attest That those whom you call’d fathers did beget you. Be copy now to men of grosser blood, And teach them how to war. And you, good yeoman, Whose limbs were made in England, show us here The mettle of your pasture; let us swear That you are worth your breeding; which I doubt not; For there is none of you so mean and base, That hath not noble lustre in your eyes. I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips, Straining upon the start. The game’s afoot: Follow your spirit, and upon this charge Cry ‘God for Harry, England, and Saint George!’
Well… I was using Scottish bank notes in the pub last night (we were trading in Glasgow the other weekend) We had a very pleasant snuff evening of it, met up with Snuff Head and between us we just about covered the table with assorted tins and boxes of snuff. Very enjoyable and all the more so as Snuff Head had a tin of Cafe Royale with him. A first for me, trying that one. Awesome!
A mixture of Tom Buck and Royal George did it for me, could you get any more English?
Yes a very enjoyable evening ermtony. I was up late this morning, I don’t know it it was all that snuff, or it could have been that Guinness I was washing it down with Here’s a Old Jar
Altogether now: And did those feet in ancient times walk on England’s mountains green. And was the Holy Lamb of God on Englands pleasent pastures seen. And did the countenance divine shine forth upon those clouded hills And was Jerusalem builded here Among those dark Satanic mills. Bring me your bow of burning gold bring me your arrows of desire. Bring me your shield, oh clouds unfold bring me your chariot of fire. I will not cease from mental fight, nor shall my sword sleep in my hand, till we have built Jerusalem in England’s green and pleasant land!
@ snuff head: there is lots of snuff on your keyboard. i like that.
betonente, lol I noticed after I took the photo. I’ve just gone and got one of those anti static dusters.
I reckon my keyboard needs doing as well!
Good for you Celtic. I do the same with my mates from the rugby club. We’ve now been ‘out’ for St. David’s, St. Patrick’s and St. George’s this year so far. We had a haggis piped in for St. Andrews last year. ‘Unfortunately’ it was a little more ‘boozy’ last night - ahemm! It’s expected that each person present from the country celebrating it’s Patron Saint’s day must buy a round! Ta-Ta Tim
As an after thought… Any more snuffers here from Hull or the East Riding? If there are you’ll be welcome to join us in the back room of the St Johns on Queens Road, Hull, on a Wednesday evening.
For those who don’t want their keyboard covered in snuff maybe you might like these. Geekiest Pants Ever
