I know I’ve said in the past that there isn’t much difference between scotches (as far as I can tell), but I’ve been leaning on Square lately and what really distinguishes it from the rest for me is the grind.  Square is quite a bit coarser than other scotches and is a darker colour.  The coarser grind makes it easier to snuff without hitting the throat.  It’s an excellent product, and suitably high in nicotine as well.

I’m not a huge fan of scotches, though I try them and on a recent visit to NC I picked up some Square, amongst others.  I agree it does seem different to other scotches, although I put it down to its having less of a BBQ/smoky flavor.

I think Square is incredibly smoky, and I love it for it. The grind is somewhat coarser, and I don’t find it to be nearly as dry as other Scotches. Square is currently my uncontested favorite Scotch.
