I have read a lot about this snuff, what exactally is it, can i still get my hands on it, if so where. From what i gather it appears that a gentleman from spain makes it but does he still or is it more than one mans creation Anyway any more information that you may have for me on it would be greatly appreciated Vince
Hi ibook7537, All I know about it was learned by searching this forum and reading the threads about it. Go to the top of the page, click on the ‘search’ tab, highlight ‘topics’ and type ‘spanish jewel’ into the box - the threads will appear.
In case you don’t know, Toque do what might be called a ‘tribute’ snuff to SJ - Spanish Gem. Its very, very good.
I think the only way to get it, is to go to Barcelona and get a Catalan translator if you can’t speak it, since apparantly the maker doesn’t speak Spanish or English, hire a car or find your way out to the village of Vic and look up one Lluis Vinyets Salabert. I heard he was very old and perhaps not in completely sound mind. If he is still alive, he MAY have some snuff to sell you. I understand its rather expensive. He will not know it as “Spanish Jewel” that’s a name Snuffhouse bestowed upon it. I’ve never tried it. The group buy on it happend before I found snuff or snuffhouse. All I know is what I read in past threads. Good luck.
Yeah unfortunately there has been no Pedro sightings in quite some time and he was our go-between for group buys. Spanish Jewel is/was my absolute favorite snuff and it is very unfortunate that it is no longer available. Hopefully one day someone can create an exact replica of it. The Toque Spanish Gem is good for what it is, but it is not the same at all.
So the Toque Spanish Gem is not like the original at all? Can someone part with a little so that he can duplicate it?
I’m pretty sure Roderick has his own stash of the real thing. Wouldn’t be easy to duplicate without the same tobacco, growing conditions, and other factors. I think we need a volunteer to go to Spain and be the old guy’s apprentice for a year and learn the proper method of making it. Short of that, I think all attempts to reproduce it will be like comparing apples to oranges.
I think Roderick had some to work with. From what I can gather Spanish Gem is a toned down version of the Jewel.
I think Toques spanish gem is actually better than the original spanish jewel. IMHO its Rodericks best snuff. Very tasty.
Both are excellent!
Wish I knew.
Read my review below. I give a breakdown of the snuff. Spanish Jewel
