Spanish Gem

Nice initial burn along with a… warm oiled leather? Think freshly worked saddle soap or old book store perhaps, but think also the comforting aspects of that smell. Not a negative at all. Within a minute or two the real fun with this snuff begins. Is it chocolate or honey that’s soon followed by a lemon or possibly orange type of fruit, citrus aroma? So far for me I usually get the chocolate 1st followed by a citrus of some sort. But not always. Most of the reviews I’ve seen on this one mirror my experience. The Spanish Gem has, for me, the four primary notes of chocolate, honey, orange and lemon with the faint undertone of tobacco. The order in which the scents present themselves seems to change from one pinch to the next.

I enjoyed this snuff so much at first, that I blew through a 10g tin in about 3 days so I reordered. I took about 2 months off from this snuff and when I tried it the other day, it just was not as satisfying as I remember. I’ll let it sit for a few days and revisit later.

Nice, succinct review OTD. Its a class snuff and I think a future classic snuff. For those that don’t know its in effect a ‘tribute’ snuff to the all but unobtainable ‘Spanish Jewel’, which if the Lord loves you enough you may obtain a few grains of from a passing angel. Otherwise take SG and ponder what could have been…

Never got the chocolate but vanilla and honey yes Very classy stuff. I have ordered 100 gm for myself and this will probably not last long.

Just came in the mail today. Tied it… A few mins ago. Mild, no burn, scent / flavor??? Not sure what I’m smelling?? Right now maybe chocolate ??? Not sure? Try more outside…

Angel’s Tears. (she’s crying because she ran out of Spanish Gem). One of my favorites and I don’t post nearly enough on one of Roderick’s finest creations. As Nigel said, a classic.

I get vanilla followed by what I’d describe as brandy with perhaps bergamot. It’s a nice snuff.

I get “flan” with some kind of booze finish. Good stuff.

For me it’s vanilla and some other scents I can’t discern. I only wish Roderick made a coarser ground version then it’d be perfect. the same sort of grind as Toque Coltsfoot, or the average Samuel Gawith. Hmmm… SG SG? Now that would be confusing!

Couldn’t agree more, a courser grind would be amazing! My only problem with this snuff is that it is clogging, a course grind might help eliminate that. But I’d like every snuff to be as course as creme de figue! Really a wonderful scent, one of the best, truly. I get a lot of vanilla, tonka, Swiss chocolate, white chocolate, predominately. I imagine there is brandy although hard to detect. I also get peppermint? But probably just a touch of menthol mixing with the rest to bring out flavors? But I do get a Xmas candy vibe, gingerbread, sweet roll. Warm hot chocolate. Long great lasting scent. If it was course It would be an all day snuff! A must try though!

Chaps, ask the main man Roderick for a coarse version. They do bespoke snuff, any of their range to your requirements of grind and moisture. A coarse version of Spanish Gem does sound really good.

Well, Abraxas offers Premium Batch coarse and fine, after all…

To me, Spanish Gem is one of the best snuffs ever made. If the original is better, it would be hard to believe. It has been all said before, but to me I detect, chocolate, honey, vanilla, and a trace of nuts–maybe cashews–and other scents so tantalizing but beyond my ability to discern.

Spanish Gem is scented with angel’s breath, mystery deliciousness and magic. There might be some real ingredients in there too.

I miss the coarse demi gros version. It’s not on Mr Snuff. The fin is damn good, but I prefer the coarse milling.

I get “Product Not Found” on the three sizes listed. On the Abraxas "menu"It’s not mentioned at all.

+1 on the coarser ground talk. SG smells like romance and daybreak, but GOD DAMN that stuff goes for my throat like a heat seeking missile. Every time. Doesen’t matter what method I use or however light I sniff.
