Has anyone else noticed spam reviews are appearing on SnuffReviews.com? I would have thought it would be best if you had to login as a registered user before you were able to post a review.
I don’t see any spam. I just hit some random places, it all looks normal. I thought you did have to register to submit a review? There are a bunch of snuffs listed twice on there though, it could use some cleaning up. For instance There is Toque Champagne and Toque toque champagne. G. Smith and Sons Cinnamon is also listed twice.
More are appearing nearly every day. What is the e-mail address of the SnuffReviews moderator?
I think a way to fix this, would be to not allow anonymous reviews.
I don’t know, I clicked on the ten recent and they were all legitimate reviews. ??
The spam posts were there on View Recent 10, but naturally they were pushed down and out of the catalogue when more new reviews were posted by others.
@ firstfloorfront, Don’t click on a link if you don’t know where it will take you. This time you was lucky!
Please becareful guys. Even if a page doesnt load, that doesnt mean its harmless. Your IP address could get logged and then your personal info breached without your knowledge. Its quite easy to hack into people computers, as been shown on g4 tv, and although MOST hackers just do it for fun and their intentions may not be malicious, its still dangerous. My wifes CC info was somehow stolen and was being used in vietnam. So please guys, DONT CLICK OR ENTER IT INTO YOUR BROWSER!!!
Snuffreviews.com is currently under seige from spammers again. Is there any way the moderator can prevent it?
Well, they should make it that you have to sign in and have an account before one is able to post reviews.
the moderator there is a bit of an absentee landlord. I hope he checks in soon.
Given the owner seems to have abandoned it, it might be an idea to leave the thing alone completely. We should re-create something similar on this site.
But there are so many good reviews on it. Could they be transferred or is there a copyright issue. I had high hopes when “Al Returns!” appeared on the homepage a while back, but the spam is back. I have copied all my own reviews to my computer because I have a feeling the site may disappear.
That’s why I started putting my reviews on my own site. I’d hate to see them all vanish. Of course I do have them all in a local Excel file as well.
that site could do with a bit of a revamp anyway so photos would be nice
I offered to help out there a long time ago but got no reply…
I think we have to face facts in that he has lost interest. That means that one day the site will simply cease to exist. A technical question (sorry if its stupid!!) would it be possible to copy the whole site onto disc?
I guess Al could do that but it would be impractical for anyone else.
You can rip anything of mine. I recommend that you have a word with Alex to see if it can be accomodated here.
It is technically possible and rather easy too, what remains is the legal issue.
Feel free to use my reviews any way that suits. But the prospect of reposting 300+ reviews is just a little daunting!
I’ve written a few (pretty harsh, I think) reviews, and you may use them as you see fit.
Any movement on this?
I think it’d be cool, to have a list of reviews under each product available, sorta like how Blabbermouth.com does for CD reviews, where people can add their reviews or comments about said CD.
As to republishing the SR reviews on a different site: user-driven content is a grey area, but this particular situation has all the traits of a site where you would need affirmative, explicit permission from any user you wanted to republish. There’s a record of users’ real names, content is date-stamped, and it’s hosted in a Berne Convention nation with no other user agreements. To grossly oversimplify, legal copyright is automatic. (And Al claims explicit copyright to the site at the bottom of each page, though which content that covers is arguable.) I seriously doubt anyone would say no if you asked them about migrating their reviews–in this thread alone, some of the most prolific reviews have already said okay–but legally speaking, this is not a case where it’s “easier to apologize than ask.” Caveat: I’m not a lawyer–I just finished an MFA in writing, and this kind of thing is discussed because understanding copyright (esp. for digital media) is a matter of professional survival.
@ Mr.snuff: I would just start again and tell people they can move reviews to the site if they want to.
well at least the snuffreviews site is still getting spam the yahoo group where i first went to learn about snuff and post sometimes is completly dead these days its a shame … looks like this place is the only decent english site left anyone here start on the yahoo group like myself ?
I did too.
