I see there are a lot of SP fans out there. I am trying to determine how the new Toque SP Extra does head on head with the classic J & H Wilson’s SP No.1. First the J&H Wilson’s…ahh nice flavor, smooth and a nice burn. To me it does not get better than this in the SP world. Now the Toque SP Extra…mmm nice flavor a bit more pronounced, that classic smooth Toque tobacco, burn and wow a nice hit of nic. Blow it out and do it again! I like them both! Both are classics now in my opinion. What do you think?
For me the Toque SP Extra wins this contest and although i enjoy many SP type snuffs no matter what snuff we are comparing when Toque is involved i always come back to the same thing and that is just how good the base tobacco is, nothing satisfies my cravings like Toque does. Oddly enough as its not mentioned on here that often i only ordered a large tin of J&H Wilsons yesterday and its worth noting the similarity between this and the Samuel Gawith SP No 1 High Mill another great SP snuff which i’m sure you would enjoy also.
My champion is J&H Wilson’s. I love other Toques that I could live on so I get my fill of their tobacco which is my favorite from the 50 or so I’ve tried so far. I think between the two Wilson’s is more complex. It’s not as strong, that’s for sure, but the flavors are salivating. I have no real desire to look elsewhere right now. I also think that Wilson’s keeps me very clear. SP Extra tends to stop me up a little so I mostly take it between other snuffs one pinch at a time.
@wickedkitchen I have been snuffing JH all day today just to make sure…LOL. You are right, it has more complexity and I think it just may be a little better in my opinion. I love that Toque tobacco. Roderick has the flavor and the grind perfect in his base tobacco. We need to see how the SP Extra develops over time.
I will be getting this one, it sounds so good. BigAL, I know what you mean, the tobacco, that’s what we are after, and Toque’s blend is very good. Now I am just wondering if BigBuyer bought too much? lol
@sprangalang LOL, guess you know me.
@sprangalang - There is absolutely no such thing as too much snuff (such blasphemy). @ bigbuyer - I am sitting here with a cup of earl grey & vanilla tea and a large tin of J&H Wilsons S.P. No1 and damn this is good snuff. you said it best yourself “I like them both! Both are classics now in my opinion” you are absolutely spot on.
Since I received the new SP Extra I’ve been snuffing a lot of it. But, today I’ve been out of the office for a long time, had to drive to Cape Town for a meeting. I took along a PC box of Original only. And now I can say again; there is but one SP which I can survive on for the rest of my life and it is Toque Original! I just LOVE this stuff.
oh… but Pieter, have you considered that you could survive on just about any Toque snuff, if you had to.
@ Juxta…I agree 100% !!
