We have just received a shipment of South African snuffs which will be available shortly. We have more NTSU, Taxi, Venter, Babaton, and Singleton. Has anybody tried any of these other than NTSU and Taxi?
Yes, the Singletons SM Plus, as it is widely available in my area. Lovers of mentholated snuffs should really give it a try. The dispenser´s very practical, too. It´s like the round Ozona dispensers, but it´s got a “stopper” so you don´t have to make 360° turns with it, to find the opening. Way much better! There are quite a few other Swedish Match snuffs being produced in South Africa these days, worth a try as well: Kensington and Rumneys Export, among quite a few others.
I got a Singleton’s in trade with Pieter awhile back. Its pretty good. The dispenser is not quite the same as the more well known one on the German market. I think I posted a photo of it someplace here. I look forward to these other ones, Dave. Good work tracking down some rarities!
Yeah, I also got a tin of singletons from Rajeks once. It was decent but nothing to write home about. I did really like the Rumney’s export though. If you wind up getting more of the swedish match varieties you might try to get some Tucky snuff. It’s arnold andre, but I think it’s packaged by swedish match. My tiny tin is almost empty. Anyway, look forward to trying these other ones you mentioned.
Be sure and give this thread a bump when they are available. I just checked the website and they weren’t there yet.
Arnold André´s only distributing the snuffs here in Germany, they don´t produce a single one and the whole range is being made by Swedish Match in South Africa (since the ´70s as far as I know).
First time I’ve heard about Venter and Babaton (Baberton?). I would also like to try some and I’ve checked mrSnuff’s website but there’s nothing yet.
VAN ERKOMS is a small tobacco and snuff manufacturer in south africa, who produces the brand “Babaton”, interesting supply…
Damn, and I was gonna put a hold on buying more for a while!
@Tom502 I know…me too! I’ve got tons coming in the mail this week!
That’s the problem, I just want to try everything. I know if I never bought another snuff again I would be set for at least 2 years, but part of my compulsion is receiving new snuffs to try.
I like Magnet way more than Taxi.
South African Snuffs are now LIVE! Thanks Dave
Cool Dave! But I’m confused about the Singletons Super Menthol, under the picture of the “Green Tub”, the description describes the rotating container, and the one with the picture that says “Super menthol” in cursive writing, it the rotating one, I have one. I’m not sure which is which? Do you have the pics right?
Ah heck, I went on and ordered them. I see the “Original” one is the green rotating container, I want the other other one.
I may not have the pictures right…I will have to check. The original is the Singleton’s everybody knows and loves. The Super menthol is actually Babaton’s. I was told Singleton’s bought them and re-branded it (and improved supposedly). But it is REALLY difficult to get any straight scoop on these. Maybe Pieter can shed some light?
I think you do have the pics right, but the container description under the Babaton’s Super Menthol seems to describe the Original Super Menthol rotating container, unless they both do that. Both also say “tub”. So, I am guessing, since I haven’t had this, that the Babaton’s are in a “tub”, like Taxi, NTSU. I have the rotating “Original” can already from Pieter, which I am thankful, and I like it. Try and get some Magnets(I have the Peach) and you’ll get more of my money.
@tom502…lol…I already have an order in for Magnets…however if there is one thing I have learned from this business it is patience. Nothing seems to happen quickly as far as snuff manufacturers and suppliers are concerned.
Don’t forget the Wilson’s Menthol. http://snuffhouse.org/discussion/2203/the-other-wilsons-no-the-other-other-wilsons/
Man, those guys don’t f*** around. The warning, seemingly molded into the lid, says “CAUSES CANCER”. Pieter, are most health warnings there so blunt? Seems like you guys and California have a lot in common.
