Sould I buy St Elmo’s in bulk w/out having tried it?

S

I haven’t tried Elmo’s yet but judging by it’s popularity here I probably will like it. I bought Viking Dark 500g drum without having first tried it, and dont regret it. Mind you, I had had the Viking peach which uses the same base so I knew Id like the Dark. I’ve seen Elmo’s compared to 1792 flake which I know has a good reputation but never tried it, not being a pipe smoker. What other snuffs is Elmo’s similar too? Is buying 500g Elmo’s bulk without having first tried it going to be a bad idea? I know you can’t tell ne, for sure, I’m just looking for a concensus.

C

I bought a 25g Elmo’s Reserve and expected I would like it based on reviews but it turned out that it wasn’t for me. I’m glad I didn’t buy it in bulk. I’d never buy anything in bulk without trying a bit first.

It’s got a scent all its own. Tonquin flavoring (some compare it to a Vanilla/Chocolate scent) on a dark brown base. I love it, great flavor, good burn, slightly sharp throat drip.

S

Is it so unique it’s not similar to any other snuffs? I’ve no idea what tonquin smells like.

T

I’d just buy the 25g first, if you like it, go bulk.

B

It is similar to smoking SG 1792 Flake

F

what is the reason for going bulk straight away?

S

OK thanks. I’ll buy a 25g tin first. It’s just this year pretty much all my snuff money is going on bulk.

Its an ok snuff, not something I’d get in bulk. Clearly it has a strong following that talk it up, but the people that think its middle of the road stay quiet (like me). So lesson to be learned, don’t just buy a snuff in bulk on reputation alone. Try them all once first. They may not be what you love.

H

Buy it in bulk, go on, you know you want to. You can sell it for half price here if you don’t like it.

I’ve never tried it, but personally I wouldn’t buy any snuff (or other tobacco for that matter) without trying it first. There’s no guarantee that your tastes will match anyone elses. For example, I understand there are some folks here who don’t like Royal George … wierdos!
