I don’t know what it is about snuff that is so awesome to me - maybe it’s the uniqueness, the varieties… All I know is I’m glad I found this little hobby, and fellow internet snuff enthusiasts. I haven’t been at it for that long, and I sometimes wonder if it’s just a phase and I’ll lose interest. I hope not! Anyone else think about that, or come back from a period where you lose interest?
There was a time that I once lost interest after purchasing a ton of snuffs. I felt like I just could not find a type to satisfy me after a while. I left it alone for a while and when I went back it only got better. Like anything in life. I know now what I like and seek in a snuff, so I mainly purchase these types of snuffs now. I do recommend trying many brands and types in the beginning as this seems to be what a lot of people do at first. I think we all have gone wild at first and seem to slow down and really start enjoying them more when we find our “type”.
I know I went through a vapor phase. I enjoyed the flavors, the technical aspects, and since I have never smoked cigarettes, I think I sort of enjoyed the throat hit. Never really felt that before. Ultimately, it was a phase, because the flavor was too inconsistent (have to keep those coils and cotton fresh), and too much maintenance. Plus, one of the enjoyable things about it, the throat hit, became irritating to me. Not that I would use vapor in the future…it is just never going to be my go-to nicotine delivery method.
Snuff is different. Its relatively cheap. There is really zero maintenance. It is consistent, relaxing, and enjoyable. It has an interesting history (history is something I love), and snuff just feels correct. I have no doubt that when the God or Gods created tobacco, they fully intended us to grind it up and sniff it up our noses as a joyful part of our lives. :-)

I have times when I don’t use snuff for months at a time (Although I always have a snuffbox in my pocket). Generally it’s in the hot months of summer, and when the nights draw in I start to pinch again. First a little, then a little more…
If it’s a phase with me then it’s long one!
I’ve been snuffing for about 10 years and I have friends and acquaintances who’ve been snuffing for 40. I would say if you like it there is little reason not to continue. If you don’t you shouldn’t feel bad about it.
I’ve had various past hobbies / subcultural interests which have enrichened my life just as much, but have put significant strains on my wallet. Snuffs cost effectiveness tells me it’s here to stay.
I was thinking about this very thing just now! Or rather I had this vague feeling of. unease > about snuff which is why I came here, to see if anyone had anything to say that would resonate with me.
I’ve been at this around 6 months and I still don’t have it down so that it’s a regular part of my life. But I also vape and that may be why- snuff really burns my nose lately, and I can’t breath by nighttime. But that may be because of vaping, 'cause it really dries out the nose. Either that, or I haven’t found my “type” of snuff yet.
I agree with Markstonsin that vaping is too high maintenance and I’d stop except I need something to do with my hands. Either way, I smoked for over 30 years and love Nicotine, so either snuff, snus or vaping will continue to be a part of my life. Truth be told I think vaping is going to be banned or become prescription medicine only, thanks to the FDA. Strange, I didn’t even know snuff or snus existed in all my years of smoking or looking for alternatives to smoking. Thank goodness they do!
@Valiant It feels like the more nicotine you have in the liquid, the more it irritates your mucous membranes and bronchia.
Switching to low or zero nicotine vapor and higher nicotine snuffs keeps my membranes alright and delivers the right amount of nic for me to stay away from cigarettes.
My interest for snuff was a sinus curve in the first year. The reason for this was that I didn’t have a “main” snuff at the beginning I guess. I only tried out different snuffs and hyped their tastes, then lost interest after a while. If you want to stop smoking I think you have to form a habit of taking a high nicotine main snuff, that doesn’t overpower you with its smell/menthol but also isn’t too bland and doesn’t irritate your nose/throat too much. I stopped smoking since I started carrying a tin of IHT #22 with me everywhere I go. It delivers enough nic and is discrete enough because of it’s light color and grind, meaning that it doesn’t leave you with a black hitler mustache and incence aura like my beloved 6 Photo Kailash. You will notice that many of the long term snuffers here have a base snuff like FT HDT, White Elephant, IHT#22 or something else they use for maintaing their nicotine level. You can still enjoy the journey of finding new awesome flavoured snuffs and take them for pleasure, but you won’t condition your snuffing habit on how much fun it is at that very moment.
I still don’t know if it’s only a phase, but it’s absolutely ridiculous how much I love it sometimes.
I’m glad some other people have some thoughts on this topic. I can relate most of what you all say, including the what was said about vapors. Thanks for chiming in people.
It’s interesting how snuff can effect different people for different reasons @Valiant. My nose is much clearer by the end of the day (providing I wash out + blow nose between changing different styles) than it was prior to snuffing. And the burn… ahh the burn… is one of the things I love most. Love the black Hitler moustache description @Michael. In the beggining, I unwittingly donned one myself, and had to use my phones front facing camera to ‘de-Hitlerise’. I’ve since refined my snuffing technique, and can now snuff on the go, without appearing like a Neo–Nazi :))
@Michael, What you wrote is very helpful, thank you. I recently switched to one much higher strength Nicotine e-liquid, and that’s around the same time snuff started bothering my sinuses a lot. I’m going to try your approach and see if that doesn’t help. What is IHT an acronym for?
@Nulliverse, I don’t seem to have a problem with the medium course grinds but the fine grinds burn like crazy. Actually I have one snuff that’s fine that I haven’t tried for ages…I need to test that one and see how my nose reacts to it. So, is it the snuff, or e-liquid, or me?
Heh, I’ve done the Hitler mustache! I didn’t notice it until after I was in public. I must remember to check the mirror after snuffing! :">
@Valiant IHT is Irish high toast.
Yes snuff is just a phase! When your done send it all to me ,I will dispose of it the old fashion way.
I find being connected daily to snuffhouse my frequency it greater. when I am away for any amount of time my snuff habit slows down. One thing I have experienced is there is no withdraw from snuff except my level of serenity. All is right with a good dose of vitamin N.
I never vaped, when I quit the cancer sticks I picked up smoking pipes for that mouth fixation . Pipe tobacco is far more pleasurable than cigarettes ever were. And I find I don’t need to smoke; I enjoy the time when I can sit back and relax with a bowl full of fine tobacco. Besides Pipe smokers live longer than non smokers. According to the Surgeon General.
@valiant , i play with the tin in my hands. i still do it now i switched to snus. might be something for you to do something with your hands

You are always willing to do another snuff-taker a solid favor, @basement_shaman. LOL. That made me laugh when I read it.

@Firestarter0, Good idea, thanks! @basement_shaman, I’m gullible but not *that* gullible. @SeanOCDPx one reason I love snuff is because I’ve always loved to experiment. When I look at the zillion snuffs, flavors, and affordable prices at Mr. Snuff I feel like I’m at the penny candy store from childhood. I could easily find 50-75 different snuff flavors to order, every order… if I were rich.
On another note, everyone here is so helpful and willing to offer support and suggestions. If more smokers who wanted to quit knew about forums for snuff and snus I imagine they would be a *lot* more successful, and experience much less stress during the quit smoking process.
Cheers!
Very true Valiant, I can definitely relate to feeling like a kid in a candy store. For the first time since I started, I don’t want to place another order, because I have so much freakin snuff, and I seriously can’t even decide what’s going in my nose next sometimes. It’s madness, but I love it.
@SeanOCDPx you’re in good company. There’s a thread around here with photos of people’s snuff stashes. I was surprised by the sheer quantity of different snuffs many people had when I first starting snuffing but now I completely understand!
I’ve been vaping for about 12 months and in all this time I’ve struggled with getting the right balance with flavours and nic levels. I also changed to a different kit every few months which failed as well, cost me a fortune.
I bought 2 small tins of snuff, WoS SM 500 and GW Kendal Brown to try and loved SM 500 straight away all for less the
I’ve been snuffing for over 3 years now and I remember the first 2 winters I slowed down a bit but since then I have snuffed daily. Sometimes I will not frequent Snuffhouse but I still use my snuff. Just recently I ordered my first new snuffs in almost a year, Toque and Old Mill, but I probably have enough snuff to last me 10 or 15 years ATM. This won’t stop me from doing a Mr Snuff order to catch up on any new and or interesting snuffs that came out this past year. Snuff really is a wonderful hobby. So many great scents from all over the world at our fingertips. At first it was a way for me to quit smoking but now it is my form of tobacco aromatherapy. Without this forum I doubt many of us would ever even fathomed in partaking of snuff.
