Some Notes on my snuffing experience thus far...

So after receiving my second package of snuff (this time from McChrystalsUSA) I find I have found a definite favorite of the 11 flavors of snuffs I have tried; McChrystal’s Anisette, with Toque Original a close second(will be ordering a 10g tin of this to put in a tap box).  The Anisette has all the notes of licorice I was looking for in sweetness, cloying, and tangy.  I have definite plans on getting a few 8.75 tins of this and putting them in the freezer for future use.

None of the snuffs Ive tried thus far (2 shipments and 3 days of snuffing) have been anything i would rather not have tried. The only slight disappointment was that McChrystal’s Original & Genuine was a menthol because I was hoping to make comparisons with Toque Original to see how their ideas of a traditional snuff differed.  The Mc O&G is a fine mentholated snuff and so all-in-all I’m not disappointed with it.

Now as to where I am technique wise:

  • The Boxcar method is coming front and center for me,
  • I still need to work on the pinch as I am still having trouble not having snuff dribble on the floor,
  • Back of the hand works when the nose isnt runny
  • Tap Boxes are a wonderful way for me to dispense snuff for the above methods.
  • (Toque)Bullets are nice for sampling but not for dispensing a full doseage
  • Non-mentholated snuffs are not making me runny anymore

As to having the snuff travel to the back of the throat/sinus, it’s happening far less often and mostly when I am too eager to take some more Anisette.

I am also definitely going to be getting more tap boxes as these have worked great for me thus far. I am very happy with my new hobby

This post made me smile when I read it, glad all is going well:) it sounds like you are headed down the right track and everything will get easier just by doing it naturally.

Thank you, snuffsahoy, The learning curve on this pastime is definitely enjoyable.  I am really loving opening new tins and having the new experience that goes with each one. I am so happy McChrystal’s Anisette turned out to be exactly what I hoped for. When I was doing my reading about this hobby licorice flavoured snuff was the thing that convinced me that I wanted to try it. Also I am so glad I sent away for three different shipments of snuff ahead because now I’ve got so much more fun going than if I just ordered a single sample like I originally planned. Also, even if for some reason i did not enjoy this hobby (perish the thought!) the relatively inexpensive cost compared to other forms of tobacco makes it an easier blow to take to the wallet.

Even snuffs you don’t love at first blush sometimes are really good another time. Don’t get rid of any, just seal them up real good and put away for another day.

If you want a McC’s to compare to Toque Original then get McC’s SP, as Toque Original is also an SP style snuff. Both are medium grind, medium moist (McC’s is slightly drier) and scented with bergamot (as are most SP’s, though certainly not all). As for technique, it just comes with experience. I’ve been doing this for over two years and I just went from boxcars to piching most of the time (I chock up the dropped snuff as mama earth’s share). Glad you’re having a good time, as that’s really all that matters. Keep on snuffin’.

Thank you snuffsahoy. So far I havent tried anything I’d be tempted to toss away but I will definitely keep that in mind for the future.

Re McC’s SP, I will definitely give that a try. Thanks again snuffsahoy

You sure are making me curious about Anisette. ?

SantamourJr McChrystal’s Anisette, of the 11 snuffs Ive tried thus far has been my best experience with snuff. I have always enjoyed real licorice flavour (licorice root or black licorice) and when i was investigating snuff taking I learned that this was one of the aromas available, I knew i would have to try it.

It never burns me, even when I take it too far back and it is so sweet and moist and Strong in anise/licorice notes that its a thing of beauty. I had no reservations about immediately pouring most of the 8.75 g tin into one of my two tap boxes for daily use right after my first full dose. And I havent regretted that decision one bit. Each dose is like a little bit of heaven(to me).

I have to second you with tap boxes and doing the box car method. Pinching was always kinda a pain for me but it’s effortless using the box car with a tap box

Yep it’s a low mess and low waste way to take snuff Codyg140.
