Some musing about snuff from a 3 or 4 month newbie

Before ordering dholakia medium dry toast I looked it up and saw some pretty meh reviews. I’ll add my own for contrast. It’s a dry fine toast, just plain tobacco aroma with a hint of maybe nag champa? I get that same scent from the dholakia white though so maybe that’s me interpreting a scent I’ve never encountered before. It’s nice, an all day snuff. It has nicotine, I guess, I’m working on reducing my tolerance so if the craving stops I know it had some but I can’t catch a buzz from snuff. Dholakia white is nice. I read reviews about burn and fishy odor and I don’t think it’s that strong, it’s very fine though and once again I get the scent of nag champa, but stronger and more noticeable than with the toast mentioned above. It was funny the first time I tried it, breathing out smoke essentially. Ridiculously fine grind, I still find it difficult to take easily, but my training wheels are the dholakia toast and that’s gotten easy to take already so it’s just a matter of time for the DW. The strongest snuff I’ve had is my own and in those ones I can detect nicotine but there is something amateurish to my product so lieu of seeing the process done start to finish I’m on a factory made snuff kick now trying a bunch of different ones so when I make my next batch it’ll be working to achieve things I like about the big boys. I found some American scotches, railroad mills is good, the sweets get me all congested though. Back drip is like desert though. Tube Rose is better than honey bee IMO, still on the lookout for rooster and bruton. Bohica is kind of interesting. If the capsaicin where 10-30% of where it is now it would be a wonderful, frequently taken snuff. I should say I’m also a chili head with a very high tolerance/appreciation for heat, but I think I agree with others assessment that dholakia went overboard with it here and relegated their product to a gag item instead of something wonderful-chili chocolate. Two things that have gone wonderful together since before the conquistadors ever set foot in south America. II dipped about 2 grams of it, and found the taste to be good, with a medium heat level on the tongue. If my nose were like my tongue I’d have a lot of appreciation for it. Over the winter I might hit it hard and see if the nose can be trained like the tongue-should befun:) I noticed I’m not a fan of menthol or the like, after trying sm brown and super menthol. However wos apricot has a hint, and that’s really nice. So now I’m using the first two as mixing ingredients, add a tiny bit to something else and it gives it that nice hint. So just musing out loud and appreciating a brand new way to enjoy my favorite plant.

Snuff is a pretty fun world to explore, isn’t it?  :-)

I’m with you on Menthol.  None of my favorite snuff have menthol.  But, I like a little menthol now and again.  But, a light menthol, just to liven things up.  Not the full MEDICATED dose, so to speak…

So I picked up 1 each of the different madras from hookah1, when it arrives I will take one can each out and put the rest in a vacuum sealed 5mil mylar bag and place in freezer, this should basically preserve it indefinitely right? It’s like a kilo size order, it’ll take some time to go thru it lol. If I don’t like it expect to see it for sale soon, but based on the reviews I don’t think that’ll be happening. Loving the variety but after this I think I’ll have to cool off buying anything else for a bit lol

The Madras snuffs from Hooka1 are a magnificent deal. If you like Dholakia White and their toast I’m sure you will like the two Madras. They are very simple but well done snuffs, I still have a lot of them left but with so much other snuff out there they are relegated to backup snuff that I keep in my car and work bag in case of emergency. It looks if you are off to a great start. Enjoy your snuffing.

The world of snuff is interesting indeed … always something to try something for everyone. I’ve found out I don’t like menthols much. I might try them again when it’s hot outside… sounds like a good idea?

The chocolate part of the Bohica blend is I’m pretty sure the exact same as Dholakia Swiss Chocolate. I made a blend of the two to taper off the capsaicin intensity, and found it to be more agreeable. It’s recommended if you want to create a variant of Bohica that’s better suited to your tastes.

Nope, the madras is a keeper. It has such a pleasant and exotic taste, err smell. But it’s not overpowering in any way to where I wouldn’t want to use it all day. So far I just tried the nc madras, tps will be next. It came shipped two boxes taped together and I was worried that it would be all busted up… Then I saw the cans, hardcore steel cylinders sealed with ultra heavy duty foil. Yeah they made the trip just fine

The aftertaste from the nc is camphor right? Kind of a hint of cooling

Just tried the tps and man is this one good too. Thankfully different from the nc, so I did get some variety in the 1200 gram order hehe. Both are really good, very pleased with my purchase.
