Ok, so for my Design Studio class in college, we have to create kind of a whole package deal thing, entailing logo design, products, adverts, and I’m doing it for snuff. I have the logo done, and I’ve got most of a product line done, I’d like you all to give me some feedback on my packaging. Now, this isn’t finished, its close, but not there yet. Inside of this package will go a snuff box, a Czech like tool, and a tin. When finished, it will all be in the box, and on the lid where the parchment type paper is, will be a brief history of snuff. The pic is a clickable picture that takes you to a fullsize image.
A nice box, noob. Depends if you’re going for a classy look or something a bit more mysterious and old to draw people in. If you’re going for old, the first thing that came to me was to attach your name and description of the product in the lid on some old, yellowed parchment. Before attaching it, take a torch and scorch all around around the edges, immediatly putting the flame out. Possible stain it with some fruit juice to give the appearance of water stains. Then, upon opening the box, a person is hit with the impression that it’s somewhat of a time-capsule, something old and rare. (Of course the name Grimstone’s Eye comes to mind here, but I won’t dwell on that). Unfortunately, You may have to get a length of chain and beat the hell out of the box to give it the old feel as well. I don’t know if you’re going that route, though. It’s too pretty of a box-maybe appeal to the classy aspect of snuff-taking is a better way. Kind of the same presentation a person would get with fine cigars…Good Job!
Sounds like a cool idea. My first thought was to include two tins of snuff as kind of an intro sampler thing…there would be much debate on which two snuffs to use though. The one thing that intrigues me most about snuff is that there are SO many different ones out there and they all are fairly unique IMO. Perhaps in your history of snuff there should be a section on different methods of taking it too. I know there’s a thread about this already, but what snuff would you put in it first?
WOS Gold Label: A real classy classic.
Thanks for taking a look and leaving comments. I should also point out that this is never going to actually be developed in real life, this is all done on my computer having been created in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
looks like a box that could be also a nice ‘humidor’ type box which would be nice for a completed product idea, its missing one thing: definitely add a dark hanky inside of it, and possibly one of the fancier looking metal bullets (except that even a nice metal bullet would go against any ‘nicely aged historical’ sense of it if you are going that way). as for one or two snuffs to put in it? (I realize this is a project not a real thing but for what you want to say is in there or paste in etc) I would vote for 1st snuff: F&T HDT 2nd snuff WE Garret Scotch (or Levi Garrett except neither of these actually come in a little tin, but you could lay them down in it side by side like a nice lay out with the little czech tool and have all of it resting on the hanky in a nice display way when its opened) (two oldies that are standbys, staple snuffs)
ok, so here is the almost completed image, just a few finishing touches need to be made, and I’d like to know what you guys think of it. The image is clickable to a full size version of it.
ok, that is f’n awesome. I looks like a table-size snuff box within. The jewel in the crown is that it is an ISTA snuff box. You should be granted membership for that.
That, is fucking beautiful. Quite speachless. It truly displays the classy nature of snuff. Great freaking job.
Too bad it’s not ‘real’, because it looks so nice, I think there would be interest in buying those as gifts for converts. And that looks like a leather top on the box! Would be sweet to have a ‘carry around’ size snuffbox with the ISTA logo that fit into the tabletop like a key, seemlessly. Or a snuffbox made of your special ‘leather’ that would grow larger, when rubbed vigorously, to the size of a tabletop box. (I kind of remember a joke about rubbing a purse made out of an elephant’s sack … hell, I’m not helping anyone here…I’ll shut up now…)
Ahahha… Thanks for the smile, Bart. I remember a joke about a Rabbi. He had a wallet that would change into a suitcase when you rubbed it.
That. Is. Fantastic. Damn, if that was real I’d want it sooooooo badly!
Thank you all for the positive responses. @cstokes4 - Thats what I was intending. Every time I thought about snuff, I had images of Olde England and royalty and I wanted to convey that. @Bart - That is leather that I used as a texture for the box. @Roderick - That sounds very interesting. Let me finish this project and I’ll see what I can come up with.
