I ordered some brown hankies from Snuff gear, and compared to my white cotton ones, they’re pretty rough. I put them through the wash once, with liquid softener and a fabric softener sheet in the dryer, any other tips to get them softer (other than use, and more washes?) I think I’m going to like the brown ones, as they look much less dirty after use.
I think what you’re doing is pretty much it. I usually hand wash mine once or twice to get the starch out then launder as normal.
yeap just use and wash, they will get softer as they age, like your fav blue jeans. I don’t know where you are located, but I get mine from Hobby Lobby. They sell them from $.25 to $.50 there. You can get some pretty neat ones, tie dye and Batick dyed. edm
Take a colossal sniff of Hedges and then blow your nose in it. That’ll soften your hankie.
Guess I just need to use these things then! @mustangii I will definitely have to check out hobby lobby thanks!
You don’t want to do too much to artficially soften them as they literally last for years. Patience, if you take lots of snuff you will need to wash them often and they will soften naturally.
or pee on them
I found that after taking them from the dryer, if i would wad them up in my hands, then straighten them out, and repeated, they would soften up a bit quicker. if you have an old pot you don’t mind using, you can boil them too (dye will come off of them if they’re new). Nothing will get it as soft as using them and washing them often, but I do both of those steps when I first purchase new ones to kind of “break them in”. New ones are always rough on my nose when I first get them.
Thanks for the tips. @FyL yea, they are rough on my nose too. I guess that gives me a reason to use more snuff!
Yes FischTix urine is also used to launder clothes. For real!
Oddly enough, I actually did know that, Juxtaposer. If I’m not mistaken, we learned in Latin class that the Ancient Romans used urine…the uric acid makes a good bleaching agent. I think I’ll stick to Tide and Clorox though…lol!
If you have really hard water like I do the occasional soak in diluted vinegar ought to help as well.
I’ve found a hankie will DANCE when you put a little boogie in it… sorry.
Don’t buy handkerchiefs that are made in China. They are scratchy no matter how much you wash them.
Hobby Lobby’s are made in India. edm
I have a few silk ones but I’m afraid the washing machine will destroy them. Consequently they don’t get used often.
i bought a silk %100 pure silk handkerchief. As Xander says i am afraid to wash it so i decided to use as dusting. But there is a confusion between the silk and “satin silk”. Which one do you mean? Here is my new hanky. It came with the larv gift.
