For increasing the pH in tobacco. Helps nicotine availability. Make Sodium Carbonate Sodium bicarbonate is CHNaO3 while sodium carbonate is Na2CO3. Simply heat baking soda or sodium bicarbonate in a 200°F oven for about an hour. Carbon dioxide and water will be given off. Dry sodium carbonate will remain.

Unfortunately this will create an unstable sodium carbonate that will revert back to a bicarbonate when exposed to oxygen. Or is that when exposed to carbon? I don’t remember. Aside from sodium carbonate which is easy to procure, there are other alkalizing agents that are also worth looking into as well.
hmm, some suggestions here would be great, i have some snuff that needs the pH raising. its lowered because i remoisten with citrus peel.

Punk Ash is used in Alaska to make Blackbull aka Iq’mik. @Nikolaos is making some with Basma I think. I’ve had it and it will kick your ass if not careful. I know one thing: I don’t want it in my nose. I make a slurry of sodium carbonate (it’s not water soluble) add some to dip, chew or snuff until it “feels” right. That means when the available nicotine is where I want it. For snuff you need to dry it and sieve it or you’ll just end up with a lumpy mess. Adding it dry can lead to distribution problems.

@Nikolaos I can’t even imagine what the blow-out would be like. Assuming, of course, that you live long enough to use your hankie. I thought snuffing Copenhagen was risky business. Punk Ash takes that to a new dimension of masochism.
