I have been using snuff for a while now but really want to try snus I am in the UK and can anyone recommend me a place I can order some from to try and which brands are the best to start off with. And how do you use snus I am completely new to this Thanks for any help
There is just one place to go, www.mr snuff.com
MrSnuff doesn’t sell snus… @bam: there’s www.thenortherner.com, although you can order from them the snus now has to be shipped via the USA because of EU law. There are a few US snus internet stores - getsnus, buysnus and snuscentral.
Your timing is a little bad for snus I am afraid. You can get them but it will be quite a game that one. Good Luck. Try good old General portions, not what everyone starts with, but one that most people settle in with over time, that an Ettan, My favorite is Grov. Your tastes will change over time, but these are some of the old favorites, and the most widely available.
You can get Makla, locally, I think. Mrsnuff does have this too. It’s not snus exactly, but it is a tobacco high nic putty that can be hand molded to a form and placed in the upper lip.
I’ve just got into snus after years of meaning to try it and as an ex heavy smoker and committed long term snuff user I’ve found it to be an extremely pleasant addition to my smokeless tobbacco use. Yes, you have come to it at bad time for us UK types but it’s still readily available. I got my second delivery today as it happens; the first took 5 days from Sweden, this one took 19 days from the US. It just means that if you get a liking for it you have to think ahead a touch. As I am saturated with nicotine I went straight into the stronger types; I’ve tried Sterk loose (looks like dip), Jaccobsens strong mint portions, General Onyx and General original portions and will probably continue to use these types. A citrus ‘purified’ snus I found pleasant enough but not strong enough. I used the ‘Northener’ which seems to be as good a service as any other.
I personally wouldn’t recommend Makla to someone who has never tried snus. Snus is placed under the upper lip, portions are in little ‘tea-bags’ and are probably easier to start off with. Loose (or lös) snus you have to mould into a pris or prilla, this takes a little while to master. I started by using mini-portions , then regular and white portions, then lös. You may want to try a few different types to see what you like, as Whalen said your tastes will change. Most sites offer some kind of try-out box or sampler deals. Ettan (lös or portion) is a great place to start, as is General. Good luck with it!
many sites - snuscentral.com is quick, but only ships to us - buysnus.com and premiumsnus.com ship to UK snus, just like snuff (moist snuff, right) comes in many varieties - i, like toffeenose, wouldn’t recommend makla. try a sample pack - but general is a brand that is a huge seller. Ettan, Grovsnus, Click(for a great cigar taste) - these are all easy starters. Watch out for nicotine content - 8mg is normal, but your strong snus portions can be 11mg to 22mg of nicotine (thunder, oden’s, any "ekstra sterk, ekstra stark, etc.) head over to one of the forums, snuscentral.org, etc. and do a little research. mints, flavors and wintergreens are common - berries, etc. depends upon your palette. just like snuff - your desire for a particular flavor will change in time. enjoy. the combo of snus and snuff has helped me kick cigarettes. snuff really was the final piece that helped me most.
@toffeenose - Malka is a rough one and I remain concerned about the TNSA content as well. Snus has been a life saver for me and it took a year to really settle down with them. This is such a difficult time to try to get into them, especially in the EU. I always recommend that someone new to snus should start with Ettan, Grov, General, but they rarely do. And after a year or so, they usualy use Ettan, Grov, or General. I have always hoarded Tobacco, my snus and snuff stash have been a comfort in these troubled times. And of course the irony is that Snus is one of the best ways to quit smoking.
not due to to EU law. Due to EU law being enforced one really big time. It’s funny people worry about new laws alot. The thing is you have more to worry about sometimes with laws that most people have forgotten.
@bob: I know, I was just using shorthand - it’s actually Finland insisting on a facet of EU law that has generally had a blind eye turned to it actually being strictly enforced, and snus retailers trying to protect their business by pre-empting any ruling. As far as I know. @Whalen: yes, snus has been instrumental in finally getting me off cigarettes - snuff on it’s own wasn’t really stopping me smoking but the combination of the two is really working and has done for coming up to two years now.
I have a decent selection on the trades thread here. http://snuffhouse.org/discussion/4690/new-snuff-trades-thread/#Item\_2 I just got another order into the UK today without a problem with customs and tax free. I have a way to get things imported to banned and high tax states and countries. Haven’t lost a package yet. Perfectly legal. If you are in the EU, as of this date, the only place you can get snus is from Northerner but then you really risk getting hit with the high customs taxes.
Pioneer is very good loose snus.
You can get all the brands from Northener via the US warehouse. The ordering process is exactly the same it just takes longer to arrive (19 days US to London as opposed to 5 days before) . I got a package of General snus yesterday which I ordered after they made the announcement that they were changing the ordering policy. What they won’t do is ship from Sweden to EU states. The package came with a clearly written customs label on it and there were no extra charges at this end. As far as I can see the only change is in delivery time.
That is mighty weird, when did you try this? It can only mean another change since I made my post-announcement order 2 weeks ago. @toffeenose when did you last order Debbie?
@snuffster I last made an order with them on March 8th. If one cannot order snus at all from them I shall be mightily displeased. [EDIT] I have looked on their site and not found any information regarding this. I have written them an email asking them to explain this policy and advising them to put the information on their website for the benefit of their customers.
This is the reply I got from The Northerner: “The only information that we have received is that We are unfortunately not allowed to ship snus from the European warehouse to EU anymore due to new regulations, so all orders to EU are through the US warehouse from now on. That is all we now for now. Thank you.”
Shortly after PACT, in the US, you could only order Snus from northerners US warehouse, but the brands and selections were significantly reduced, and their prices were significantly increased. If you are in the U.S. and you want Snus, it seems that you have to pay a lot more now and your choices of brands/flavors/strengths are pretty limited. PACT pretty much killed snussin’ for me, unfortunetly.
In the US we can and do still order from Swedish based shops. Prices have increased, mainly due to shipping, but not nearly as much as they went up when ordering from Northerner US. Compare Buysnus or SnusCentrals prices to Northerner, you’ll flip. EU is pretty much out of luck. The major manufacturers, according to rumors I’ve heard, have demanded internet shops stop selling to the EU, no matter where the shipment originates from. There are a couple of manufacturers that have not demanded sales to stop, but they are the smaller ones. This bit in Finland has scared the bejeesus out of almost everyone.
All-in-one we can all agree, this whole new hunt on snus is just a bad joke. I am in Germany and believe me my snuff friends, i am highly pissed!!
