I was just wondering whether or not other Snuffhouse members “fluff” their snus portions. I have always done this ever since I tried the awful camel snus years and years ago, and there’s no real logic behind why I do it. If you don’t know what I mean by fluffing the portion, I mean just kind of pushing it around until the tobacco is even and fluffy. Are there any actual benefits to this?

B

it spreads it out making and decompresses the snus making it a little stronger or at least a little quicker to absorb. Not enough to beat los but…

J

I do, not always but mostly. It also helps balance the bag.

Is los stronger, @bob? I’ve only had portions.

X

I ususally do this if I’m not in a hurry. I also often get it wet with spit before i put it in place. Helps reduce the burning sensation.

B

I fluff most portions just to get the tobacco even in the pouch. The exception is Swedish Match white portions that come in the Star formation. Those seem to fit my lip perfectly right from the can.

B

I think los is just better.

N

I almost always fluff out my portions especially if they are old and dry. Los is just messyer, a lot messyer

B

I fluff them up after I use them .Then I cut them open and smoke-en up. Those things are toxic to wild life- fur. fish and feather don’t need snus.

B

Yes I do need snus

S

I think los is just better.

Why?

Los is just messyer, a lot messyer

Having used Makla which requires making prillas, which I find messy, that’s the reason I’ve only used snus portions. I’d like to know why @bob or anyone else might prefer los.

D

hi snuffysnuff los has alot more favour than the same snus that is in a portion ,plus you get more snus for your money with los more in the can, and one last thing the nic hits quicker with los as well… hope this helps

B

Lös is just another way of using snus. A few snus do not come in portion form. Lös does seem to release more flavor but I seldom notice a major flavor difference in the same brand between lös and portion. I prefer lös at home and for the cost advantage, but out and about portions are much more convenient. Except when it’s time to dispose of them. Lös you can just toss in the bushes, portions require a proper container. Although when I was in Sweden there were more snus portions on the ground than cigarette butts.

I agree with Mick but want to add that also portions don’t give me much satisfaction. I get rid of, or prevent, my Jones, but rarely any pleasure. Lös, I make about 1.5 -2 times the size of a portion, and I get a small kick. Also I find its paradoxically easier on my gums than the portions, and much softer/gentler then makla. So at home if I’m not snuffing, and I have the liberty to be a bit messy -because i do have to spit a little bit, I prefer the Lös. In the shower for instance is a good place to use it. My local guy keeps General in stock, and usually orders Lös for me. Not my preference, but its locally available at least. I’ll use about one roll of it for every two rolls of portions.

B

yeah more flavor. More fun since it requires some skill to use properly. There isn’t just more flavor there are more naunces in the flavor. I agree with xander much gentler on my gums. It’s not a rip off. If just using snus portions I would go through about a can a day. They are not just weak and take too long to scratch the itch. Los last longer. It’s real snus. It’s less messy then portions once you learn how to make a proper prilla, the portioner tools are only good for portioning not for makeing your pris. It’s easy to make a good solid pris it only takes practice and impresses the ignorant because it seems so impossible the first time you do it (so did talking to girls too so). I don’t always want the same strength. Some times I want more nicotine so I make a big pris, sometimes I want just a little bit of nicotine. (bad joke comeing up sorry about this last point) For the same reason I prefer boxers over tighty whiteies cause I have balls. (I did warn you).

S

OK I’m buying some los on my next order. I don’t have any problems making prillas.

N

The problems come when its time to take the prilla out, talk about MESSY!

B

that’s easy hook your finger over the top of the pris should come out in one basic clump if there are pieces left rinse with water. Sometimes I just lift my lip and let it fallout (outside or over trash). Use a piece of cloth or paper towel if squimish.

S

i guess i kinda even out the puches then sort flatten them , it helps them stay a little dyer for longer. But um new to snus , and if i get to much juice at first its not what i like

B

the too much juice is the effect of pouches

S

Have to with SM original portions, the snus is ALWAYS clumped up at one end! Oden’s, Jaks and Thunder are always uniform for some reason. With SM white portions I have to break them up and fluff them out, the wedge shape doesn’t work for me and they taste better when the tobacco is even in the pouch. With loose I can leave a prlla in much longer than a portion, and I keep portions in for over 2hrs at a time. With loose I find the nicotine and taste more satisfying for longer, as it softens in your mouth over time more of the good stuff comes out! I only use loose at home unless I am feeling brave as I have been known to use loose in work just for a change

P

I often do this. I thought it was OCD onset. Glad to see I’m not the only one.

M

I have a question unrelated to my original post, hope it makes sense. Is all/most of the flavor that one gets from snus derived from the drip? I’m not a big fan of when the portion heavily juices up, and I almost always spit the "juice. " I don’t mind a little bit of drip though, just wondering if there’s a flavor element beyond that. Do you guys swallow the drip? Is there generally not supposed to be a lot of drip or is it to be expected? Thanks

E

I never had any luck with los. The pris were messy, as was taking it out. Certainly this was my lack of skill, but the mini portions seem to work best, and the containers (about the size of a Toque tin) make excellent snuff containers. Now I see los is more economical, that’s something to think about.

B

@maneikis not with los.

B

@maneikis, yes the drip is where most of the flavor comes through. I swallow the drip 99.9 % of the time. Of course I used to swallow the juice from Copenhagen too, so snus is comparatively easy to handle.

M

Appreciate all the answers to my question(s). Do you guys fluff the wedge shaped portions as well? Is there a reason for the portion to be wedge-shape other than for the sake of the star formation?

B

No there is no reason for the wedge except it makes a pretty star in the can. BUT Swedish Match did spend a lot of time and money trying to get it right. I was told they had all kinds of calibration issues with the machines. And no I don’t fluff the wedges, but it seems I’m the odd one there.

J

Of the ones I’m not likely to fluff are the wedges. Sometime I’ll fold the empty flap over.

S

@Maneikis I always swallow the drip, loose or portion, it won’t harm you or make you feel sick like dip juice does.
