I am particularly proud of the Smith’s minatures…
Those Smiths miniatures look great. Is there a variety of flavors or are all 12 the same? And also how did you come to purchase them? I’d love to get ahold of something like that myself.
They are all different and based around their old ‘cardinal’ range. They were a present from my parents in the 80’s - I’m afraid not available anymore.
Yeah that miniature set is pretty cool. The white colored box with brown lid, is that horn?
Well spotted TS, it sure is. Bought from Frederick Tranters in Bath about '86
Nice collection snuffster. Looks like alittle bit of everything just like it should be…
Very nice. Makes me drool. What’s in the black tin next to the large tin of F&T? Would you put me in your will please?
Where do you keep all that snuff? I wouldn’t have room for that much!!
Thanks folks, a small collection by some members standards but I’ve always been more a snuffer than collector. The black tin contains Smith’s Irish and you can have it all the minute I drop dead, proboscis - although Ive been feeling remarkably well recently! It all fits on top of the Welsh dresser to the left of the picture, Lazarus, in two polished wooden cases that held bottles of Claret. My tastes in snuff are quite conservative really - I generally only use a couple of the Toque’s and Wilson’s - so its stayed pretty much the same for years The real bargain was the silver snuff box on the bottom far right - antique silver for £16!
If you are looking for a trade I would be going for a small rosewood, smaller than the ones currently on several sites with clover leaves and the like on top, so about the size of a patrick collins box, or indeed a patrick collins box that you wouldl like to swap
Just my little collection of boxes and holders. Most of my snuff I buy in bulk and so is stored in zip lock bags. I just re use most of the tins/bullets, etc. Nothing compared to yours but, alas, my money go towards guitars. …nightcap
Keep the pics coming, guys. Happy to see your collections!
I love the French box Nightcap. Im a geetar player too, blues lead, some rock. My weapon of choice is a Strat that I’ve had customised slowly over the years, now got a nice slim-line humbucker at the bridge to get some of that crunch that Strats lack.
Very nice!!! Another Blues man! Mine would be an epiphone 335, cherry red with P90’s in neck and bridge. I pump that through a MI audio blues pro overdrive into an Epiphone Valve Jr. I’m also in the process of building a strat of my own. Ala Gilmour’s " the black strat"
I play as well. studied classical guitar in highschool. The past couple years I have been playing guitar and bass at my church. I’ve got a Peavey Generation Custom - nice little inexpensive guitar. It has a peizo pickup in the bridge and 2 humbuckers and I also have an early 90’s peavey fury p-bass clone. I’ve always got my eye on some new guitars though. I smell an off topic musicians thread coming up!
HIGHJACK!!!
Yep, I guess we could go an at length about this stuff, I certainly can! I’ve played since I was 14 - 30 years, my God!! - starting off as straight ahead rock/metal, but getting bluesier as I get older. I’ve mostly played in blues outfits for the last 10 years doing the London club and pub circuit. Family and work - as happens when you get older - have put my music on the back burner for a while now but I’m getting that itch to perform again so the long term plan is to get gigging again next year. The great thing about living in a suburb of London is that just about every other bar puts a band on at the weekend so no shortage of venues, some of em pretty shit hot as well. I like the plan to build a strat, Nightcap. Are you going from scratch? Thats a pretty big job and getting the diemsions, tolerances and specs up to standard woud be way beyond me! A good source is ‘The Fender Stratocaster’ by A.R Duchossoir (Mediapresse, Hal Leonard Publishing Corporation), with a lot of hard to come by construction and spec data. Hey Matt, I’ve done a few hundred church services as well, I used to tread a fine line between the olf folks wanting to kick me out and the music fans telling me to turn up!
Not a bluesman myself more borderline avant garde. I hate to say experimental because that isn’t how I look at it but I guess my bass playing could be put that way. I love my fender though it’s a 90’s jazz bass (a little lighter and thiner then a regular jazz and it’s got a P pickup. So if we are ever in the same area we could have a snuff jam :). Oh I can play blues and it is actualy really fun to play with other people on occasion. P.s. anyone have any recordings of music projects online??? As I’ve said before I’ve got my electronic project on myspace the projects name is propaganda through propagation.
Nice to hear we have so many musos on the forum. The jazz is a nice guitar, in fact I like pretty much all of the Fender instruments, Ive owned and played a bunch of guitars over the years but always come back to my trusty old strat and in fact its about the only guitar I use nowadays. Ive got a stack of recordings but nothing online, maybe Ill get round to that at some point but me and IT don’t get along that well so would need someone to do it for me. Its a drag we are spread over the world as a snuff jam would be a fine thing. You are right Bob, it is fun to play blues and anyone can jam along once they have the basics in place, even my old cat can do a decent 12 bar pentatonic solo. I also like avant garde, its good to let rip, forget the rules and loose yourself.
@snuffster Not totaly from scratch. But I have purchased the body, neck ,pickguard, tremolo, all pots and electronics, tunners, etc. It was once all in many parts lying on the floor. Now all I have to to is find time to wire the pup’s and jack. Just waiting for my vintage kluson tuners to come in from ebay and It should be a blues monster!!
