Snuffs that should exist …

G

Taking it as a challenge to unleash your imagination or creativity : what snuff would you wish would exist, how would you describe it shortly ( tech terms, subjective poetry, etc.) and how would you name it? Example: A mahogany-peppery-honeyish-cinamonish basenote, coarse like fine-grinded cloves, dark brown-red color, medium moist ( KB style). With ean easy pinch, and a slowly intensifying hit which would scream with topnotes of latakia after about 3,4 minutes and then slowly fade away into a sweet wet leathery smell like a late summer evening on the porch of an old house in northern Spain. Think humid old furniture with a breeze of freshly harvested chamomille. Could be called “AFTER THE RAIN”

D

I’d love to have an olive scented snuff, and a Cannabis plant that tasted of olives. I doubt I’ll ever see either though

N

Two words BAY RUM

S

Two that seem too delicate to be successful:
Beet
Avocado

I’d also love one that smells of wet earth after a healthy spring rain.

Z

I love the smell of gasoline. Can’t imagine it would be a big seller though.

M

Real maple might be nice if paired with a light tobacco

B

chicken supreme pizza … A strong rum only flavor snuff and a sort of luxury mint chocolate blend would be nice.

J

I’d like a high quality aloes snuff, by an artisan snuff maker who cared enough to source good aloes (gaharu) and wasn’t scared to charge what that would involve for such an expensive material.

A

I have always wanted an Oud snuff, I dont mind paying more for the sheer cost of Oud oil. @JakartaBoy I agree I asked Roderick if this was possible, and he told me that he will research it. Not sure if you were talking about the Aloe succulent or Gaharu the wood in which the Oud is extracted

A

I would also like a snuff with a flavored back drip if this is possible. Something other than the bitterness of the tobacco base. I dont mind the McChrystals base since to me it tastes like earl grey tea.

P

I’ve always loved the smell of the high Desert after the rain with the smell of creasote. I would like that as a snuff, probably a medium course grind and medium moisture.

A

@Psicko wouldnt one Desert after the rain smell different to others in other locations? I love this scent though I know the Sonoran desert smell quite differently to the Tanami Desert here in Australia. You will may need to send a huge soil sample.

Y

Citron (Esrog),

Among the religious in Israel the most snuff is sold around Yom-Kippur, and that is just about the time that we start looking for Citrons for Sukkos.

Citron with Clove.

After Sukkos, some people stick cloves into the Citron and keep it around for Besomim.

P

@Aamon, yes you are correct. The smell of the high Desert with creasote where I grew up would be different than your desert. Cobguy knows the smell I’m after. Hint hint…

C

@Psicko … been thinking hard on that one!
It’s just a dream … for now … but here’s my thoughts so far.

The “Rain Series” … Desert, Jungle and Urban.

Desert … dry & fine with hints of Creosote, Pinion and Juniper
Jungle … Coarse & moist with a heavy moss / peat smell that fades to earthy / chocolatey tones
Urban … Medium grind and moisture with the smell of wet concrete (maybe a little diesel fuel, lol)

Still busier than a sump pump in a leaky boat but it’s starting to come together.  Hope all you guys are doing well … take care!

B

Rootbeer

P

@Cobguy, good to see you back on. That series sounds good. Glad things are coming together. @basement_shaman I second that. OM sasparilla was good for that. I would like v to have one that is still in production.

A

@Cobguy in the Urban snuff would the wet concrete smell you are referring to as the scent of bitchumen or wet cement?

I would also be interested in how you would recreate the Creosote scent without using any of the compound. Which part of the desert scent would be the Creosote, would this alone recreate the scent or would other minerals and soils also contribute to the desert scent we are talking about.

On a separate note I would very much like to try your snuffs when you get back in operation.

R

Kebab scent! Petrol! Diesel! Redman original smell! General original scent!

G

Palosanto. This one should be easy to manufacture. In fact I will soon make an attempt myself, i have some 33% pure essential oil, just need to find a good tobacco base and start experimenting.

U

Cardamom. I absolutely adore the scent.

S

@Ubiquitous I hear Old Mill Arabesque was a cardamom bomb.  Unfortunately never got to try it myself.  =((

J

More perique and how about a durian flavor.

N

Butterfinger, chicko’stick and rollo for sweets Sour apple, watermelon and huckleberry for fruit Mandarin spicy chicken and Korean bbq for protein This list could varywell change I just a few minutes

O

Banana; a proper fake candy banana. Would be nice on occasion, and would probably be stellar mixed with menthol.

B

Pizza

A

@basement_shaman what kind of Pizza?

B

@Aamon Italian with pepperoni possibly Onions, bell peppers and mushrooms

Or Philly Cheese steak with mushrooms, fried onions and bell peppers; love that smell. The sandwich is tasty too.

A

Ill jump on that. On a diet so a pizza snuff sounds nice even as a limited edition. Heck Cheese and Bacon is popular, just add some pepperoni, onions, mushroom a tad of chilli and a bit of salt for the anchovies. I dont know I love anchovies ahaha

O

@Aamon just mix in some Dholakia white, it has a weird fishy/anchovie funk to it.

N

@Oregon i’m with you on the banana runts thing. i saw that stok has a banana flavor, anyone tried it? i think i saw roderick saying it’s basically impossible to create a banana flavoring that isn’t synthetic (or at least not one suitable for scenting snuff), so stok’s banana should be a candy banana if that’s true. probably mentholated too. i would like to see more snuffs with ‘savory’ scent profiles, like a nice basil and oregano, or a savory indian curry. or like rosemary and thyme or something. stuff you’d put on chicken.

N

Tikka Masala with extra curry.

A

Rosemary and Amber!

1

Old spice aftershave (as long as the scent didn’t last hours) and second for bay run.

Y

Barber Shop,
Turkish Delight,
Ginger and Honey,
Hadasim
Apple Pie

?

N

Blacktooth Grin (Crown Royal Canadian whisky, Seagram’s 7 whisky and Coke) - in tribute to Dimebag Darrel.

T

Monkey Butt - Banana and Peanut butter :O

Bakewell - Marzipan and cherry (cherry bakewell)
Cookie Dough - Vanilla and chocolate and shea butter…hang on.
Shea Butter

D

@Nulliverse

Was DImebag a snuffer?
:open_mouth:

N

Lol, not that I know of @dan11! I just think it’d be an interesting mix, and would love see snuffs dedicated to icons who have left us. A Jack & Coke could be another (Lemmy)

C

Donut shop blend - a little sweet with heavier scent of coffee, maple, and cinnamon, followed by lighter notes of nutmeg and bacon. Everything you smell while walking into a great donut shop on a cool Sunday morning.

B

Fizzy Bubble snuff it makes you fly. To get down just blow your nose
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOaM_BGj47s

S

Cucumber

G

Horseradish with cinnamon. Damn, I think I will cook this one myself, should be a strong hit!

F

No question about it. Mangosteen snuff.

A

there need to be a wider range of apple flavors IMHO

A

A Leather snuff!

F

I’ve been thinking for a while about what a cannabis-flavored snuff would look like. Apart from the cannabis I also thought of another drug that moves a lot in the south of Spain due to the proximity with North Africa. This second drug is extracted from cannabis and is usually called “pollen”, “hashish” or “pakistan” (Hash) I think they have a very characteristic and deep aroma. I think we should not rule out these flavors by the fact that they represent drugs. At the end of the day are aromas and flavors that make up this place called the world.

F

@nor_cal_low_life By the way, 6 photo snuff has an “Indian Curry”

F

Also add that I would love a snuff with a taste of wet ground, that unmistakable aroma that appears after the rain has a name in Spain. The smell of wet earth is called petricor (or petrichor) and comes from the Greek petros, ‘stone’, and ikhor, ‘ethereal component’.

F

In the wikipedia we read that in the Greek mythology it is said that the ikhor is the essence that runs by the veins of the gods instead of blood. This unmistakable aroma does not come directly from ozone (although it does influence something), as we have often heard, but from a chemical called geosmin. Geosmin is produced by an absolutely harmless bacteria, which is called Albert’s bacteria (the technical name is Streptomyces coelicolor). Some fungi may also produce this bacteria. These organisms react thus to the humidity of the soils where they live. And not only when it rains, but when you water a garden, or pots, for example.

F

Finally I would like a snuff of eucalyptus, without trying to fall into the error of adding menthol, although I think it would do him good attracts me more the idea of ??two types. Eucalyptus without menthol, with the pure eucalyptus fragrance with those dark tones in its flavor. And a menthol eucalyptus, but with a very soft menthol.

M

A Snuff sauced with a Caribbean brown rum: Barbancourt preferably!

G

TAS! (pure tobacco bliss)

Eucalyptus (would clear the sinuses if accompanied with a strong base tobacco)

Clove and cardamom (like in Begum snuss)

Pure clove

Cinnamon

Musk

They should have natural flavours and be strong in nic and burn. The flavour could be subtle.

A

I used to homebrew and my favourite thing to do on brew day was put the empty hop bag up to my face and inhale deeply. I’d give anything for hop scented snuff. Also Ralph Lauren Safari.

5

@ArgentOrangeOK McChrystals do a hop snuff

M

That lovely spiced apple scented tobacco you can get in the middle east in the sheesha pipes: glorious.

P

@frandelrio- we had one of our snuff maker on this board @cobguy who was researching the stuff to make a post rain/wet earth snuff. It’s on the first page of this thread

N

I would like to find a Pistachio if anyone knows of one!

G

Absinthe. Double strenght. Or triple. Why not?

T

Bog Myrtle. My favourite smell. With maybe a drop of menthol…

C

Brandy. Xeres Brandy.

J

Almond scent. I have a shave soap that is awesome in that smell. (Cella)

Also I would love to have Frankincense and Myrrh.

M

Did I mention this but something along the lines of Creed Aventus: pineapples, blackcurrent, jasmine, ambergris: fabulously complex. I can’t afford the real aftershave but have a shaving soap modelled on Aventus and it is beautiful.

C

A pine resin scented snuff for Christmas.

B

there used to be pine scented snuffs

T

yes,but where are they now?
never had the chance to try molens A/P…
:((

B

@tobaccobob I know I miss them. It was better then menthol in my opinion especially when you have a cold.

K

I want my Samuel Gawith : Banana back  ! Or at least be able to buy the Banana Flavor so I can make my own !

5

@kurtsnose PM sent

D

Coal.

I bought my wife a coal-scented candle (yes, romance is not dead) and it almost exactly replicates the smell of a burning coal fire.  Pure nosetalgia (sic)

H

@Dxx Have you tried Samuel Gawith Scotch Black? It’s not exactly your coal snuff, but it’s very much in the same wheelhouse.

W

I’ve been planning out a recipe to recreate the scent and feel of an early morning in the Sonoran Desert after a light rain during citrus blossom season. I’m starting a crop of tobacco soon and I’ve been researching techniques for extracting flavors from local ingredients. Pretty excited.

D

@Hitsuzen It’s on my next order (if I can find any). Is it similar to Black Rappee?

P

@willynelson cobguy was trying to recreate the desert rain scent. Don’t think he was successful though. He does make some pretty good snuff.

C

@Psicko … yeah, that’s been an elusive scent.  I’m not giving up just yet though!

My two latest creations are a Clove / Spice with light Menthol and a Savory / Umami blend.

The “CloveMint”, as it was named, has been a great Fall / Thanksgiving scent.

P

@cobguy sweet. I really want that desert rain snuff and that other one I suggested you give a try.

S

Coffee, really fresh coffee. No imitations. Skunk- yeah, strange

V

Some mono-scented snuffs.
Tarragon (Artemisia dracunculus) scented rustica snuff of any grind. Could be lightly mentholated.
Wormwood (Artemisia absinthium) scented MdK snuff, made of flue cured virginia.
Kalonji (Nigella sativa) scented toast or Madras-type snuff.

R

I’ve tried making strong tobacco’s with good spiced rum and it comes out exactly like fubar’s shot of rum and I don’t like Fubar shot of rum:(

A

@Zanaspus   I just read of your desire for gasoline scented snuff.  (January last year.)

In the newspapers a few years ago, it said that quite a few Australian aboriginals living in poverty, actually drink gasoline petrol.   They cannot get hold of alcohol, so they resort to petrol drinking.

The additives in the fuel have all sorts of dire side effects on their health.

I vaguely remember it being brought about by their living in communes and either their elders or their government banning alcohol sales in certain regions to combat alcoholism.

I roughly remember it saying sales of petrol were being stopped in the affected areas and everyone having to get diesel cars.

Any Aussies reading this?  Hopefully they can give us the full picture.

My fantasy snuff by the way,  would have to be based on a clear, medium such as gelatine.    That way I could enjoy snuff on a train, plane or bus and know that when I eventually had to blow my nose, I wouldn’t have to hide my brown, messy  hankie from everyone.

V

@Zanaspus NTSU Green. Loads of gasoline and nicotine with a dash of menthol.

R

@Oregon: Have you tried our Roter Kaschube?

D

Anyone have a lead on a snuff that smells like an old bookstore?

D

Anyone have a lead on a snuff that smells like an old bookstore?

C

@DrOctagon … F&T Old Paris has that scent to me.

There’s a bit of leather / must and a light floral aspect.

N

I call it F&T Old Lady from Paris A bit of leather like an old ladys skin and a light floral aspect like an old ladys perfume. Not a fan of F&T perfumed snuffs and Old Lady from Paris is my least fav.

C

LOL …  at least you agree with the scent.

B

old paris is great. And has a touch of that. I don’t know if it’s still available but the bernards in the yellow box something virgine really had that old book store scent. Damn I miss that one.

D

All these suggestions are great but I am not impressed by the “sort of/kind of” attitude, so I have decided to grind my own tobacco, get a first edition of Herman Melville’s “Moby Dick” and grind it into the snuff. I will call it “There She Blows”

C

LOL!  :-j

V

Tomato rappee. Or dip.

B

Cucumber, Wasabi (if done right) I love the sting and smell in the nose. And I really like the idea of ambient scents rain, forest, wine cellar something that creates a ambiance in the nose

D

“Hi I’m @baconpete, welcome to Snuffhouse” https://youtu.be/sSHxFSaOV-o

B

LOL

S

strawberry rhubarb vanilla
good chili snuff
real orange snuff (like the orange from essential oil it smells so amazingly great and refreshing i use it around the home a lot)
caffeine chocamine or guarana (i have some tobacco-free guarana from bernards but i dislike sniffing sugar)
tamarind snuff (main flavor not just as enhancer or ph regulator)
lemon-eucalyptus snuff (the tree not a mix of lemon and eucalyptus)
swiss-pine
more fruity snuffs without menthol
after-rain-smell snuff (geosmin)
new car smell snuff (just kidding)
coconut suncream on bamboo mat in the summer -snuff (jaxons english gold comes close)

@nor_cal_low_life there is “rosinski berliner luft” its reminds of steakhouse spices maybe a bit of english style curry. also the kaethnertabak which goes into the same direction yet a bit more sweetness (maybe from hops and other herbs as kaethner is a “garden” based snuff)

M

i would love a cypress snuff.only cypress oil though.

V

Toasted White Elephant.

S

apfelstrudel (cinnamon,sweet apple,rum raisins,vanilla)
cherry honey beechsmoke and this in a version with pine thats spiced with some menthol and camphor
mixing it myself from gekachelter(smoke),celtic talisman (cherry),stargarder(honey),bernard f(pine+menthol)
very warming and pleasant the pine blends great with the cherry almost makes it hard to detect distincively

N

Chocobar - dark chocolate and vanilla.

V

Camphorated snuff. A pure one, without the addition of menthol and any other oils or scents. Just tobacco, water, alkalizers, camphor and salt.

N

^ try WoS Camphor & Mild if you can find it, I think its one of the flavours that got the axe

V

Thanks, I will try getting some from mysmokingshop.co.uk, there’s still some left.
I guess it was the only of the kind.

C

I think i’d like a graham cracker flavored snuff.  Been really digging  Irish 22 recently and started thinking about how my grandmothers  cabinets always smelled like graham crackers.  It’s a fond childhood memory of mine.

A graham cracker toast sounds delicious!

J

someone posted turkish delight well wos rose reminds me of turkish delight

A

I would love to try Catholic church incense snuff. Frankincense and myrrh I believe

N

Bacon cheese burger but better yet… Canadian bacon and pineapple pizza

V

Talking about pineapples, is (was) there any pineapple scented snuff? Not that I would want one, just curious.

Z

@volunge The only one I can think of was Old Mill Calypso which was a coconut/pineapple sort of thing.

O

Fresh mowed alfalfa. I miss this smell from when I was a kid working on the horse farm we had

T

COAL TAR – I love the smell of the soap, I would love that popped into my nose on regular intervals without the need to be in the shower!

I

Came here to post exactly what ar47 already has – church incense snuff! When I first read the name “St. James’ Parish” I was hoping it might be this. Maybe if I burn some incense with an open tin… :-?

A

@Insufflemus I’m still waiting for that one!! An Apple snuff would sure be nice

E

One of the Poschls says it’s apple.

N

WoS and SG both had apple snuffs that got the axe when the names changed. The WoS one was pretty good but the SG one like all their flavoured snuffs tasted highly artificial. And I’ll say it again BAY RUM

V

@Epitango, which one?

E

@volunge, a review of Jubilaum’s mentions apple & pineapple.

F

@ar47 I am pretty sure Poschl Schmalzler D is apple scented. I love that stuff. Call me crazy, but I would love a scotch snuff scented lightly with gunpowder as the smoky content. I am a huge fan of mixing Toque rasberry menthol, and their violet together, sometimes with a hint of rose mixed in. I sent an email to Roderick suggesting this as a scent, but surely he gets plenty of those, so I will not hold my breath.

V

@Fantastic_Floyd, my nose smells a pure banana in Schmalzler Doppelaroma. We don’t know what Poschl use, but some ester odorants have versatile scent profile. For instance, (iso)amyl acetate has a strong fruit flavour, used in both apple and banana flavourings.

Talking about gunpowder, I get a distinctive rifle/shooting range smell from 6 Photo MG Madras and FUBAR Grunt. The smell of a gun.

A

@Fantastic_Floyd normally I’m trying to get that smell Out of my nose before I snuff luckily lead free shot shells are more available now

F

@volunge Banana? Wow, I love banana flavoring, but all I get is apple. That is probably only because I believe he Mr Snuff description mentions apple. This makes me want to go get a banana slurpee right away, I love those more than a lot of things. @ar47 I could smell it all day long and still enjoy it, it awakens feelings in me that I was sure disappeared with being a kid. Nothing else does that for me, except maybe tobacco. There is very few things in this world with a taste that equals its magical aroma. Tobacco is one, coffee another, and I imagine gasoline and gunpowder would also taste as good as they smell. So far, I have never been drunk enough to find out. Intentionally, I mean. Edit: Vanilla bean. That is another, I just realized.

M

For maybe just a novelty scent, movie theater popcorn.

F

I just thought of another. Spruce. Like the tree. There is a Glade brand air freshener that comes out around the holidays scented with spruce and it is a wonderful scent. A snuff would be great.

M

If I remember right, it was from Harold and Maude. Snow.

A

@Fantasitc_Floyd check out Bernard Original F for spruce! A member here @nicmizer makes his own Banana snuff. Combining his Banana and his Chocolate … WoW. If only that kind sir could produce his in bulk for the community …

B

Pineapple toast!!!

S

@BillSykes I agree on the pineapple! Toast or not toast…

P

chamomile tea would be nice

E

Ham and feet or wet cat and cheese.

B

@SvH I think Toque should make a pineapple! Toast or otherwise is fine by me I would have thought pineapple would have been more popular than some fruity scented snuffs…apricot…Im looking at you…lol

F

I would definitely be interested in a pineapple snuff. There is, I believe, a Poschl snuff that Mr. Snuff describes as containing pineapple as well as other scents, but it has not been available when I have ordered, unfortunately. @BillSykes is this another trendy food thing, like the oft mentioned avocado toast? I ask because my mother has been making something she calls avocado toast for over seventy years, as well as putting pineapple on either bread or toast with either a little butter, or sometimes a little mayonnaise, and I think salt and pepper. It would be great if she was inadvertently setting yet another hipster food trend many decades ahead of time. Next on the list is the same thing, but with bananas or even sardines. She also loves liver, but I do not think that one will fly with the cool kids.

F

@ar47 How funny, I recently fell in love with Bernard Original after a trade with SammyD13, and I could not place the scent, most likely due to the heartbreakingly obvious fact that I am some kind of genius. Thank you for informing me not only of the scent, but of the fact that a huge capital F appears on the label, which I now see and understand that this is in fact part of the name of my new favorite snuff. Now I need to try A through E, I suppose!

B

@Fantastic_Floyd Nooooo! No hipster food trends here just the desire for a sweet pineapple snuff It could be pineapple upside down cake scented if it needs to be food based…I wouldnt complain at that

S

Approaching thunderstorm snuff

F

@BillSykes Well, shoot. I guess maybe she is not actually some sort of idol for all those kids wearing the same ridiculous and horribly self-aware costume, after all. Too bad, so sad, I says. I thought it was hilarious, myself.

C

 Eggnog snuff

Also I adore the smell of Black Calabash pipe tobacco.  I think it would be delicious in a snuff…maybe i’ll put some through a coffee grinder and see…

T

Toque USA Pineapple

C

not calabash…cavendish…

V

@Captainblackboogers, for a small tester you can grind dried out pipe baccy with a spoon. I used to dry small amounts on the sheet of paper over the low fire, keeping safe distance. Then put the sheet on even surface and crush bone-dry baccy with a spoon. Works really fast with small amounts. For better punch you can add clean wood ashes (up to 50% by volume), or some potash / sodium carbonate (up to 10%, by weight; better try smaller amount first, like 3-5%) if you decide running larger batch.

C

Thankyou @volunge  i will do some experimentation when i have the chance.

D

Mango

Honeysuckle

New Car Scent

V

@Deez Have you tried 6P Gold Rush? I think it’s mango flavoured.

E

Wombat.

D

@volunge I have not tried that one yet.  Looks like I need to add that to my next order!

S

Chestnut Armagnac Nutella Geranium Windex

B

A Madras snuff with Rose overtones. Something like a mix of 6P’s MG Madras and Sugandh Sagar. Please make this happen @sixphoto!

V

@bolbam420, get yourself quality attar of rose and add some into the snuff of your choice. Thin it with pure alcohol before mixing in. Let the alcohol evaporate.

B

@volunge I am going to try this. Rose attar is easily available, here in India. I didnt however get the bit about pure alcohol. Do you mean isopropyl alcohol?

V

No, 95-96% ethanol.

B

I wonder what a toast with a hint of horseradish would be like?

H

Blood sausage

Fresh Brezel

2-stroke-mixture like for a chainsaw, hedgescissors

G

@Vlounge I love gold rush. Temporarily out of stock though. Trying not not purchase any more as I have about a years worth of a back catalogue and saving pennies for toques new range.

T

I’m also a Gold Rush fan. If you haven’t grabbed the 15-jar 6 Photo sampler pack, it’s an amazing way to try a bunch of strange stuff

B

Paan Snuff! Something like the Pan Pasand candy or a real pan with gulkand. Idk why this seems like a sure winner to me, especially with folks who like florals, scented snuffs. With a lil bit of menthol, this one could be an all-dayer for me. @newbiesnuffer @sixphoto

S

Good idea @bolbam420 , I will definitely give it a go

N

bolbam420 Great idea! In fact with very little menthol, but some mint.

J

Rosemary.
Essential oil from this herb helps blood circulation in the brain and is beneficial to overall congnition. I use it very often and it really works for me, kind of nootropic effect.
I had to make one by myself, took a tin of my beloved Neffa and left with oil in containter for a week. It really packs a punch! The effects of this snuff was somehow way more stimulating. Run out quickly cause I LOVE the aroma itself.

The only one I heard of was WoS but never came across this one. Maybe there are some rosemary scented but are not named per se and are hiding from me?

Mountain Dew

I was watching Outlaw, the dip cowboy from youtube and came across his idea of this flavour for dip. Not sure if that soda taste could be somehow incorporated to snuff, then into nose, but I love the taste of Dew ocassionally. All the goodness without sugar, that would be cool.

Other than that, I would love to see Neffa Ifrikia in bigger economic tin, like 25g. Those 8g containers lasts me a week at best.

Ive already mailed SIFACO on this matter but havent heard from them since  8-|

M

I would like to try an Indian Sp from @sixphoto. I am thinking a strong scent on coarse rustica, oiled. With a good amount of bergamot in the mix.

G

Hazelnut

Plain dry

H

Gawith Lavender. Sob!

C

New born baby smell…there’s  challange for you @roderick   haha.

D

Morgue Madness

This will almost definitely sound macabre! Retired cop…detective for awhile and I really miss the aroma of the morgue on a warm day with a nice cadaver being autopsied! Not sure what to use as an essential oil. Yeah, I know I am weird but cops and retired cops have a somewhat warped sense of humor. It helps one survive the emotional stresses of the job.
Cheers,

Doc Holliday

B

Burnt marshmallow…the smell when you roast a marshmallow over a bonfire.

K

Popcorn

S

Something like makla, but in a nasal snuff form. i can’t explain it.  :)) There’s something about it. You just smell it and you know it’s gonna be strong and satisfying af.

B

Caramel/toffee/stout - same consistency as OTTO Schmalzler and smells the way Kees caramel fudge stout tastes

B

Maple Syrup / Coffee

M

Strong, dark air cured. Drenched a few times or so with red wine. Or does SWS or somebody make something like that?

V

@Mr_O, very simple 19th century recipe for wine-treated snuff:

Best Parisian Rappee

Mix 100 g coarse whole leaf flour (processed with midribs) with this sauce:

Cream of tartar (“wine stone”) - 8 g

Medoc wine - 6 g

Water - 25-30 g

When “fermentation” is over, mix the snuff with finely ground 15 g crystalline* sodium carbonate, using sieve.

Let the rappee rest (mature) for at least a week before indulging into it; most probably it becomes only better with the time. Keep it pressed in an airtight jar, mix well and sieve before use. You can omit cream of tartar and use only wine, water and sodium carbonate for sauce.

EDIT. Just took a glance at preceding, more detailed recipe - Dunkirk’s Fine St. Omer, which calls for 8-9 g cream of tartar, 8-9 g Burgundy wine (or any other similar wine), 15 g crystalline* sodium carbonate

(* crystalline - probably weaker decahydrate form of sodium carbonate - Na2CO3 * 10H20), consider using smaller amount, like 12 g, if you have “fine” form (anhydrous Na2CO3?); 25-30 g water. Mix the cream of tartar with wine and water and work this sauce into 100 g tobacco flour. When “fermentation” is over, mix the snuff with finely ground carbonate, using sieve.

M

@volunge thanks for the info, I might have to attempt that sometime!

T

Zweimuhlen St. Omer No.1 was fermented among others in wine lees!

What a glorious snuff!

Hail mr Jaap!!!

@snuffmiller

S

Best Malt Bitter no 1

S

Beet - Bright and earthy, “dirt” scent, but a touch sweet.

Butter - Artificial butter flavor is easy, but what about scent?

Leather - The smell of a new wallet or belt. (Berwick Brown has a lovely leathery note.)

Pipe - The smell of grandfather. An aromatic like Captain Black, etc.  (Forgive my probably poor example, I’m not much of a pipe smoker.)

Tomato - Musky, tart, sweet.

S

Caprese - Basil scent riding on a subtle creamy mozz with musky undertones. Maybe even some balsamic tang.

Chicken Stock / Beef Stock - Maybe an odd choice, but I think it would be a comforting smell.

Genmaicha - Toasted brown rice green tea.

Grass - fresh-cut lawn, or wheat grass juice.

Mechanic’s Shop - Oily rags with a hint of gasoline.

Pine: Juniper, spruce, etc. I’m legitimately surprised we don’t see more of these.

Toasted Sesame - 'Nuff said!

S

I have been craving truffles so a creamy umami truffle snuff and for dessert a creamy chocolate rocky road ice cream would be killer.

R

Took a pinch of Wilson’s Grove the other day and went outside which smelled of freshly cut grass. If there was some way of combining the lemon and kind of chlorophyll sweetness into a snuff I think it would be very refreshing!

V

@RobEdgar, sounds like a thing from Rosinski Green snuff series.

R

Thanks as ever @volunge I’ll have to check 'em out!
