I opened a tin of WoS Chocolate and Orange last night, and I was put off by the initial smell of this blend; it was just too much.  I thought, okay, I’m going to snuff this anyway and see what I think.  Inside my nose, it was great.  Perfect moisture, nice citrusy aroma, lingering chocolate aftertaste, not artificial smelling in any way, a mild nicotine kick.  I think some people would really like this one.  But when I reached for it this morning, I just could not get past the strong smell - nay, stench - of it.  I think I’m definitely one of those “less is more” people when it comes to flavorings.

I was wondering if anybody else has had this experience with a snuff - one that you love, if you can just bring yourself not to smell it too much before you snuff it.

A snuff like that will probably improve with some airing out. Leave the tin open for an hour before each use, and eventually the strength of the aroma will reach more agreeable levels. Alternatively, if you have a natural tobacco snuff that you find boring, make a blend.

Samuel Gawith Elmos Reserve gave me a pause when I opened my first tin of it. The tonquin note was strange and overpowering. It’s even quite strong in the nose, but over time it’s really grown on me, and I’ll have a couple pinches at least once a day.

I think it is not that unusual that a snuff doesn’t smell in the nose like it does in the tin in that you really can’t get all the flavors and fragrances by smelling it before taking it. I think it probably is a little unusual if in the tin it smells nothing like in the nose and verse vica but I have experienced that with a few of the F&Ts so I know what you’re saying.

I have seen people take a whiff of snuff in the tin and give a proud look as though they did all that’s required. I don’t even bother smelling the tin when somebody offers me one, I just take a pinch and try it. If I hate it I can always rinse out my nose. It doesn’t happen that often.
