Flying back to the East coast tomorrow. Just wanted to know if anybody has ever ran into any problems with bringing snuff onto a plane?

Z

Never. Make sure you have at least one labeled retail tin, so you can show that it is in fact snuff. I have snuffed on many a plane. The problems you’ll run into are: DRY AIR!! I get clogged like nobody’s business in dry airplane cabins, so you may want to bring some saline solution with you (3oz or less, remember) I got picked off for my metal bullet once, by an observant TSA agent, but remember, there are commands in place that they are not looking for large amounts of money and drugs, only hazardous objects/substances. If you get picked off as I did, please for the love of all sacred, offer the TSA guy/gal a snuff. Explain it’s “scented tobacco” and would they like to try some? My experience was that the TSA agent had heard of it, and was enthusiastic to give it a try. They’re humans, with an exceptionally boring/stressful job, and get excited by a break in the monotony just like we do.

M

On my last trip to a knife show in Vegas I forgot and left a knife in my carry-on. When the TSA agent pulled me aside and told me about it, I apologized and explained that I am a knife maker and thought that I had removed them all, but must have missed that one. When she asked if I wanted to return to the counter and have it checked I told her that I really didn’t want to bother with it, and she could take it home to her husband if she wanted. She was thrilled! TSA agents are normal, nice people for the most part. When you run into one with an attitude, just think of how you would feel if you had to put up with that many idiots in a day.

I have carried a SG tap box in my shirt pocket on a couple flights. It did’t set off the metal detector. On one flight, the fellow next to me was dipping Grizzly Wintergreen. He was happy to try some nasal snuff when I offered it.

S

Yeah, I just wouldn’t carry everything in unlabelled containers. Don’t bring it all in smash boxes or snuffboxes, carry a tin with you. You should be fine.

T

Is it just me or does the title of this topic remind you of that Samuel L Jackson film? Listen Here

B

I carry in a smash box all the time. They’re plastic and don’t set off the metal detectors. I don’t even declare them and no one has ever asked about them.

S

I’m sure most cases, it’s not an issue. But the one time someone notices it, I’d rather have a proper tin to pull out, just in case.

D

I have actually found snuff for sale in some duty free shops in the airport.

C

Enough is enough! I have had it with these m************ snuffs on this m************ plane!

B

so is it just me or will mr. jackson take nearly any role?? Cause if he will I think we could make the toque story with him as roderick.

C

Samuel L. Jackson as Roderick. That is a good chuckle.

B

So who’s gonna invest if we can get Samuel (so at least we can tell him that if he’s on the project we can get funding.)

J

I’ve got it! It’ll be the sequel to Formula 51, we’ll call it Formula 52, and Elmo McElroy has gone legit, turning his superior knowledge of chemistry towards snuffs. He’s working on developing a snuff that has the nic hit of Dholakia White, the clearing power of McC’s O&G, the bergamot notes of Toque SP Extra, (keep going til this totals 52 snuffs)…

G

I am glad that somebody got the reference. I ended up just putting the tin in my carry on bag and there was no problem. Thanks for all the help.

M

Let me bump this old thread for a moment. I’m flying out next week, international flight to UAE. I want to bring snuff with me for the 13 hour flight of course. I was thinking of taking a few still-sealed tiny Wilsons tins still in the plastic. The tops are, however, metalic. With the even worse world-climate recently, has anyone on here traveled internationally with snuff?

R

I’m thinking of putting everything in Toque tins. They look like dip tins and declare in no uncertain terms what they are right there on top.

E

My daughter flew to New Zealand and back recently and took some of my snuff with her (normally she smokes). I filled a couple of old GH sneeze boxes for her (one with HDT and one with KB). No problems at all and her flights involved stops at Bangkok, Sydney and Singapore.

A

No problems ever, including flights to and from the States. The only time I’ve ever had to explain what it was was when a customs officer saw my Toque can and all she wanted to know was where to get it as she wanted to stop smoking.

X

@Roderick I think its Yemen, but not sure. Remember Matero spent some time already in Qatar, so he’s probably up on all the local laws.

A

I think you are right, was this the guy who had to make his own?

S

Yeah, it was Qatar. Only country in the world where snuff was illegal. However, Bhutan made it illegal for its citizens to have it. I remembered reading you can bring your own in, but if they catch you giving any to the locals, you can get in a lot of trouble.

M

Qatar hassled me over aspirin before on arrival as well. It’s definately not Yemen though. They sell Qat( a stimulant leaf) and machine guns in hole-in-the-wall shops out there. Tobacco is the least of their problems. Well, I think I’ll just take small wilsons tins with me and finish them before I land. Just enough for the flight, and go back to the “grind” when I get there.

T

Samual Jackson’s tapper tins wouldn’t leak.

J

No problems here I haven’t even been asked I’ve had tons of snus, pipe tobacco, and snuff and not been questioned. One time I was going to walk through with a can of general figuring it’s plastic the TSA guy saw the ring and asked is that Smokeless tobacco, yeah, oh that will set off the thing better send it through, didn’t argue sent it through in a tray haven’t tried snuffing on a plane before.

K

Dangit! I see several of you beat me to the “Snakes on a Plane” references. Ah well. . .I’ve carried tins of snuff and snus while traveling by air and have actually never been hassled about it. I was, however, except for my snuffbox, carrying company-labeled tins. Of course, it could be that they’re usually more interested in the 22 guage, 1.5 inch syringes I use for testosterone injection.
