Snuffs like Viking Dark

I have just tried Viking Dark and I love the flavor. Are there any snuffs similar that anyone would recommend that would be like Viking Dark? I think the musty smell is what I like the most, also the coarse grind and moisture level. Thanks guys

Check out Sam Gawith’s line of snuffs. Although none are exactly like Viking Dark, many fit into the same family. Try the Kendal Browns (not the ones from Wilson’s or F&T), Black Coffee, London Brown, Scotch Black, Elmo’s Reserve, Black Rappee and check out Gekachelter Virginie from Bernards. Most importantly, enjoy the journey!

Thanks @Mr. Nose just what I was looking for!

Yes Mr. Nose is spot on with his recommendations. I too love the SG snuffs that are dark, moist, and have that leathery, earthy element to them. The only thing that bothers me with this type of snuff is sometimes they will clump up into little balls and when like this they are very hard to take. More difficult than even the South African snuffs. Even when they are like this I just use them at home to minimize the mess. When they are as they should be they are a sheer joy to take. Was wondering if any snuff veterans knew why these snuffs tend to booger up like this sometimes?

Viking Dark, to my nose, actually has a similar flavor to a toast… only coarse and moist. YMMV. It’s great stuff. For other dark, moist, coarse snuffs- I’d recommend GH Kendal Brown, Taxi, and NTSU. You should also try the other Vikings, if you haven’t already. They’re delicious.

Mr.nose beat me to it ,I recommend the same

Thanks all guys I have some deciding to do or just get them all and go from there!

Heck, just get them all. you won’t regret it. Some awesome choices. You know you want em right?!

@willc I gave up trying to snuff by insuflation those heavy ones. I ended up just shoving them in, or even packing them in. Its still messy, and when it starts to run, watch out! But when no amount of wind you can generate with your body will move them, so its pointless to try, and seek out alternate means of use.

@willc the boogering up as you call it is an effect of dehydration. As a moist snuff loses moisture it tends to leave behind little masses of clumps. These do not fall apart as bound by moisture so regrinding or and or rubbing through a sieve best suit reclamation. Regular stirring up does help clumps from forming. An anaerobic environment also lends a little help in preventing the dehydration. I for one enjoy the heavier snuffs that I can breath in fully while taking. The Gwayi, South African styled snuffs fit this bill perfectly. Nor do those clump like the English Rappees do though the Rappees are AWSOME.

@Juxtaposer Thanks for that. I thought it could be lack of moisture but was not sure cause I had a couple moist GH snuffs that dried but they did not clump but they also were not a Rappee. These type SG snuffs and the South African snuffs are a nice change of pace for me. Though reserved for home use mostly because of the messiness factor they provide a nice alternative to their dry dusty kin. Using these the method of snuffing does have to change a bit too as @Xander said. Shoveling or strategic placement may be some ways to describe it. Anyways enjoy these great snuffs no matter how you pack them in.

I must have a strange nose. I still have to use caution with fresh ntsu or it goes in my sinuses. Might explain all the yearly sinus infections I used to get.
