Is it Virginia or Burley, or a combination of the two? Are there others as well?
virginia
It would seem that a snuff made from Burley might have a good kick to it. I wonder. Maybe it wouldn’t taste as good as the Virginias.
Check out http://snuffhouse.org/discussion/comment/171741#Comment\\_171741 It is a combination of both in varying proportions.
It’s true, as Mr. Nose states that varying tobaccos go into making a snuff. However, the question was what sort of tobaccos are produced in Zimbabwe. To my knowledge, when one speaks of Zimbabwean flue cured, the tobacco in question is a virginia derivative.
@Mr. Nose and tybalt Thanks for all the good info. In the future, I’ll be sure to search the knowledge base before posting a new thread. Awesome info. Thanks.
German snuff is made from Brasilian tobacco. WOS Gold label is Virginia. Most British snuffs are made from Zimbawe leaf.
A quick google session shows that both Zimbabwe and Brazil both grow for export Virginia and Burley varietals. There are many types of both Virginia and Burley and no doubt they choose the best suited for their growing areas. It has been said by pipe smokers that the Zimbabwe virginia has an exceptional fragrance. Brazilian tobacco in German snuffs also have a notable scent. I think however it is mostly how these tobacco’s are processed that produces their unique overtones.
Also WOS gold label is made with American Virginia not just any Virginia cultivar. Furthermore, generally speaking England buys their tobacco from Africa, Germany from Brazil, India from India, and I think Jaap Bes buys his tobacco from America.
