First cold I’ve had since I started snuffing. (It does seem to have protected me a bit!) Tough to get it in there, but it sure feels good when it does! I’ve got this Sturco menthol which gets rid of the congestion in seconds. Also the F&T Seville, which I’m not crazy about normally, is working well in there. The Toque chocolate is cloggy to begin with, that’s a no-go. Going to try the Crumbs of Comfort next.
Hope you recover quickly
When I have cold, I can’t take snuff at all. Not just because my nose is clogged, but simply because the crave is missing. I tried to use chewing tobacco last time, but I didn’t enjoy it, I had to spit out after ten minutes. I think it is unnecessary to force it, just take a few days break.
Dr.Rumney, redbull, ventors. 6 Photo are easy to keep the nose open. Use zinc supplements and chase the cold away.continue to use zinc through the cold season and next cold season
cold is one of the worst things for snuffers. Medicated and toasts are really good medicine.
The last two times I felt a cold coming on I used Toque Christmas Pudding and the symptoms disappeared within a day and never progressed to a full blown cold. I suspect it was the clove in the snuff but I have also read that covering the inside of the nose helps to prevent the development of colds. That was referring to a medicated spray but it did occur to me that a relatively fine snuff would cover the inside of the nose and lock the bacteria down.
Headcolds send me right to WoS #22 or F&T HDT. Camphor and menthol make my nose rebound, and any additive seems to clog as well. Try some nice, dry toast.
With a stuffy nose I get more relief most of the time from finer grind snuffs like d white, cheeta, and white elephant to name a few. Those usually clear it up quick
I got a virus a couple weeks back and must say that although my body was tired, hurting and had cold sweats, snuff kept my head & sinus clear. It was almost a weird experience
I have a cold now, medicateds are ok if you need to unblock but if, like this current one, your nose is constantly dripping and runny, toasts are the way forward, medicated snuffs will just burn and hurt. Taking toasts with a cold is much easier since your nose is very, very, very moist with all the snot in there, so it doesn’t hit your throat too much
Just realised I haven’t had a cold for a year, coincidentally since I started regularly snuffing. I’m sure of this or I would know which snuffs to use and as luck would have it my favourite as in toast seems to be the way to go. I’m almost looking forward to getting a cold now but realisically if I never ever have another that would be absolutely fine. I don;t think I’ve ever gone a year without getting one in spring and autumn and when I smoked they could take weeks to clear up. All hail health giving snuff. Probably just wipes the bacteria getting up your nose clean out but it is absolutely essential never to miss a frequent pinch in order to gain full protection.
My colds don’t seem to be any where near as bad as they were when I smoked. The rest of the family were down and out for 2 weeks just recently, I think I was congested for a few days. I’ll take that. Plus, mucinex D really thins the mucus and you can snuff anything on that stuff.
but it is absolutely essential never to miss a frequent pinch in order to gain full protection.
lol, great point I have some McC’s Sturco which is great to clear up congestion and I have some Hedges L260 on the way from MrSnuff. Can’t wait to see how well that stuff works with congestion, can’t wait to try it for the first time anyway
I found Klostermischung not only unclogging nose - it also cleans nose from the previous snuff leftovers.

Not to dig up an old thread, but I must attest to Toque Christmas Pudding really helping me along with this bugger I’m fighting now. WoS Crumbs of Comfort and SM Blue help for a fleeting moment (and for that moment it is wonderful), but the Toque Christmas Pudding has kept me open the longest. Can’t really “taste” the Toque, but I think the fine grind and perhaps the clove are helping. I tried some of my plain scotches, but they simply didn’t agree with my malfunctioning schnoz. I was going to lay off the snuff, but found I couldn’t breathe at all without. I’ve been alternating with the neti pot to “de-gunk-ify” the passage ways and snuffing to keep everything dry throughout the day and for the most part have kept the airways reasonably open. I might add that I used to get colds and allergy conditions pretty regularly prior to regularly snuffing. This is the first cold I can remember having in the last few years.
I had a rather nasty cold recently (after taking up snuffing, I haven’t been snuffing long enough to know whether I will catch fewer in the longer term) however I kept the nasal symptoms more or less at bay using mostly Hedges. I had rather gone off Hedges until then but it really came into its own, that and Fubar Medic.
Medicated No. 99 all day every day when I catch a cold.
Agree with Skell18 regarding taking medicated snuffs when you’ve got a cold and your conk is runny; result unpleasant burn and more runny nose. However I’m with Leman in that when I got to the stage where I’m completely bunged up, Medicated No 99 is a superb decongestant…snotterfall as they say.
with @lunecat A congested nose is ideal for pinching toasts
