Snuffing through a cold.

I

My head aches, my eyes ache and my sinuses ache, I’m stuffed up and my body aches all over - I have all the signs of a cold coming. Aside from menthol, could I have some recommendation for a nice gentle snuff to console me over the next few days? If this is an absurd question forgive me - I have only been snuffing for a couple of weeks.

a quick search on here found many threads about this http://snuffhouse.org/search/?PostBackAction=Search&Keywords=cold&Type=Topics&btnSubmit=Search

I like RR Mills, Navy,( plains) or swisher Wild Cherry,a 200mg vitamin C tablet, then a shot of Jager with a lemon squeezed in it before bed. If you wake up in the night sweating it means your work was successful…you ‘broke’ the cold, as they say. Consider yourself healed at that point.

C

LOL. That sounds like a remedy I can deal with!

D

Hedges all the way.

B

Well, …I guess the vitamin C and keeping your lips moist with alcohol keep the cold from getting worse, is what I was always told Edit “Jägermeister’s ingredients include 56 herbs, fruits, roots, and spices including citrus peel, liquorice, anise, poppy seeds, saffron, ginger, juniper berries and ginseng.” It was also used as an antiseptic in WW2 So, now you know why I serIOUS! DAMMIT! NoW, wer"s the HelL did i leeve my anticeeptik, womAn!

C

Vitamin C is the biggie. And lots of liquids. Helps flush out the virus.

I

@snuff-n00b. Thank you for the response - I’m afraid I’m rather new at this.

D

JAger is the cold killer I keep a bottle in the freezer just for it.

M

When I’ve a cold, I reach for Toque Menthol…I keep it around for this purpose. I’m going to try some Jager next time…love that stuff!

J

Enjoy it while it lasts as this may be the last cold you will get for a long time once you become a seasoned snuffer. I’m not making any promises but it’s been like that for a lot of us.

S

McC’s O&G, one pint of rum, drink it all and then zip yourself up in a sleeping bag and sweat it out. work’s every time.

P

I find Poschl’s Gawith Apricot the best one for me when I’m a bit “off”.

A

I find that when I have a cold the plainer snuffs are better at keeping my sinuses open. I’ve got a cold at the moment and have been using Toque natural toast with a dab of menthol and its worked much better than the decongestant I bought.

W

If I ever get a cold (which is frightfully rare these days), I use Hedges exclusively. This not only unblocks you and keeps things moving it also takes headaches off as well. Stefan

J

I reach for my box’o’snuff and down a few shots of plum moonshine before going to bed when i feel a cold creeping up on me, works wonders. Jager and Rum sound like good options too :). Lately I’ve been treating the occasional sore throat with snus as well , that much nicotine is bound to kill anything trying to move up on me.

B

I just have to ask is it me or does anyone else agree. That medicated snuffs are the best when you actualy have a cold or flu. I seriously have found they agree with my nose more then other snuffs do at such times (like right now). I also find I don’t seem to get any rebound effect either. Just want to know if anyone else has noticed this.

A

The only way I can use or enjoy medicated is by just using a very small amount as a seasoning in blends, adding a cool flavour but not the medicated effect. Medicated used raw ends up giving me the actual symptoms of a cold and will end up completeley closing me down. Strong, plain snuffs with a dab of menthol really help me though.

P

I have this problem; Since I started snuffing, I do not get the common colds anymore. Anyone got some advice for me?

B

Go back to school. Spend a lot of time in a hospital just milling about breathing deeply. Have strangers and friends sneeze in your mouth. Lick half eaten food products you find in trash cans. Chew the gum you find on the sidewalk. I’am sure you’ll get a cold if you do that.

P

@bob, I agree entirely: When I last had a cold, I found that almost every Poeschl tastes a *lot* better. If someone finds that the menthol detracts from the enjoyment, there’s no better circumstance than a nasty cold =)

B

Yeah menthol is amazing for when I have a cold. One of the last colds I had every none menthol snuff I had just smelled very acrid with nothing plesant. Menthols actualy had some nice dimension I normaly missed.

S

A pinch of WoS Extra Menthol as needed gets me through the day when I have a cold.

N

WOS SM Blue. It clears like no other.

A

Hot port and any snuff is my prescription.

B

The problem of not even being able to sniff with a cold led me to use schmalzler to get me through. Cramming large amounts in without having to sniff and good drainage following it is key,IMo. (Well…that and two teaspoons of Jager each night…)

B

Yeah the schmalzers are great for excising phlegm. I didn’t expect that but they are.

S

I caught a cold last week, my first in over a year.  It hit me unawares, and promptly progressed into a sinus infection.  Yucch.  So I laid off the snuff, it just didn’t seem like the right thing to do.  Been using snus lightly, but been very grouchy.  Tried smoking the pipe, but it tasted like ashes and made me cough.  Last night I took a pinch of Hedges, and it was like the light shining in!  I felt that warm glow, and the world was better.  I never crave menthols, but that sure hit the spot.  My tobacco use could be limited to only snuff, upon this experience.

J

I used to get a spring and fall cold that turned into a sinus infection, like clockwork.  This fall I had the first cold/sinus infection I’ve had since I started snuffing in July '09, and even then it was a ‘dry’ sinus infection.  That is, while my head felt stuffy and I had some sinus headaches, the main airways were clear and my schnozz wasn’t running like a faucet.  Yay for snuff!

C

I’ve had a cold since Sunday. No snuffing for me, my nose is way too sore.

R

@spranalang…I recently went though the sinus infection thing and hedges was the ticket…got the pills, continued with hedges only and got over it in record time!

C

Hedges has really helped me get through my cold this year.

B

I’ve been down to one nostril open with this cold, but I have to keep snuffing. I layed off dip and snus…got a double root canal on Weds. I still love both, but growing up with well water, I guess my teeth aren’t as strong as the norm. For me, I will stick just with snuff for the forseable future.

J

Dang another double post my fingers r far to fat for this phone

J

Y because u didn’t get enough poison flouride?

X

Double posts seem to happen inexplicably in this new Snuffhouse. They also seem to magically self destruct!

J

I noticed that.

J

Sort of on topic has anybody noticed that snuff seems to help in the event of a nose bleed?

B

@Jd When I was a boy, they told everyone that a ‘Flouride Enema’ was the correct way to get your flouride. Painfully, I find out years later it was just some kind of sick joke. The only thing it has helped is my ‘shit eatin grin’.

R

Nothing like minty fresh bowels. Did you floss afterwards?

H

Just throwing this out there, came down with a cold, got the scratchy throat the day before and last night had that awful cold taste you get (do you know what I mean?) in your mouth. Anyway, just wanted to say that the snuff has definitely changed the way the bug has manifested itself. It definitely will be short lived and the nasal drainage has only been slightly more than usual. I can fully understand the marketing of snuff long ago for treating colds and such. Three cheers…

J

It does seem to help the process but whatever you do don’t get any snuff stuck in your sinuses while sick I did that once and it was one of the worse sinus infections I’ve ever had, rookie mistake though.

A

I haven’t had a cold or any other illness in almost a year since I started snuffing/quit smoking. I go through 7 to 10 grams a day depending on what I’m using and I really think it helps keep “bugs” away. I have thought about when I will enevitably get sick again and I am glad that I will have snuff around…

S

7 to 10 grams a day!!! With me its what goes up must come down, or rather out the hooter. Avedis, do you manage to get it all out again either by blowing or excavating so to speek? I feel I need to clear out whatever is put up eventually.

A

Personally, for me a cold means no snuff - how do you get it up a blocked nostril? I do find it useful when the cold is on the way out though.

A

@Stoogsy …I know I wind up swallowing a little bit here and there, but I am sure most of it comes out (or at least I hope so)…I do blow my nose quite a bit throughout the day.
