There was a dedicated snuff wiki but that seems to have been forgotten about and the creator no longer posts here. Shame as it looked pretty good. The article on wikipedia is not quite accurate: snuff started as an elite form of tobacco taking, by the 18th century it was also becoming widely used by the common man and a lot of women, although pipes remained popular. Historical anecdotes favour the the rich because few people recorded the lives of the poor, but the evidence is there… For various discussions, and sources, of 18th century snuff taking see ‘Snuff and Snuff boxes’ by Hugh McCausland, Batchworth Press, London 1950. I would add to the article but I can’t publish on wikipedia.
