I usually pinch my snuff and take it to the nose, sometimes I take it off the back off my hand, it depends on the nature of the snuff. However, every few months my technique fails. For a period of up to a week, the snuff hits my throat, falls out of my nose etc, and is just not comfortable. 90% of the time its fine, and all is well, its just every few months this happens, its like I forget how to do it! Does anyone else have this or is it just me? I’ve been snuffing for nearly 6 years now and this has always happened.
I usually snuff when I am playing or working on the computer and 99.9% of the time, I use a small spoon. I think my spoon is actually a metal baby spoon. Of course I don’t fill the spoon, but spoon some on the tip, bring to nose and sniff.
I experience some kind of snuffing failure every day.

The problem I have is overshoot trying to sniff both nostrils. I am finding that a sharp sniff in one nostril while the other one is pinched close (avoids the overshot) helps a bit. Before doing this, I always “snorted” the snuff in 1st nostril trying to sniff in the 2nd. Hitting the throat is incredibly nasty.
@Allan, same here. Just take it as read and carry on as normal. Stefan
@Koba22, happens to me quite often. I started riding a bike at the age of 5. I’m almost 67 now and I had a crash not long ago!!
lol Pieter!
A daily occurrence for me, as well.
I find I have to snuff ‘mindfully’, - the moment I snuff without proper consideration for the lovely stuff, or just rush, it’s no fun. No reflex snuffing. Hence the lenghty old protocols I guess.
@petersuki , I think it might be the other way for me. I snuff fine for weeks and then I’ll have a random ‘mistake’ and not snuff properly. From that point I over think the snuffing and thats why it goes wrong, untill I stop thinking about it again and it goes back to normal. Thats one theory anyway.
For me if I think about how clogged or not my nose is I do fine always. the thing is don’t always think about it. Though the white snuff is really really really easy to take with out mistakes. How you ask only use it in a nostril that seems clogged. Works wonders.
The only fail I have is if I’m working under the hood of a truck and my nose is full of a schmalzer it will drain out of my nose, not snuff just brown snot. edm
@Spyro, yes at my “high” age I still try to ride with THE YOUNG ONES (remember that song?) when we are on our mountain bikes. I can’t keep up, so many a time, when I overdo things, I “come off”. But I’m always at the back, so no one can see me go down. My nickname at the club is SpeedyPete!!!
I can sympathize Pieter. I tried to get back into martial arts lately but my body had other ideas. Walking and yoga stretching are about the best I can manage without getting injured.
I always seem to hit the back of my throat no matter what i do. I have had my tonsils and adenoids taken out though so i get stuff draining from my nose to my throat all the time. I just have to deal with it i guess.
Its hard for me keeping fine grinds out of my throat. A good technique passed onto me is to pull my chin closer to my chest. This makes nasal passages more vertical and truely lessens the issue (gravity is our friend). This also works with med and course grinds too, although with course grinds it creates another small issue of it falling out. With even a lil practice courser grinds won’t fall out immediately. However, having soup after taking a course grind is not reccomended by snuff manufacturers, unless you actually like a little seasoning in your soup.
I’ve come to enjoy the feeling of snuff hitting my throat. Just like the burn in the nostrils… once you get used to it, you begin to associate it with a positive experience.
