Snuff Store Take a pinch

I am guessing these are Samuel Gawith flour & tins, Has anyone tried these? Opinions & reviews would be appreciated.

I would almost guarantee they are sam gawith.

I am getting ready to place my first order with Mr. Snuff very soon. I plan on trying the Black Magic. I will give my noob review once I get it.

Black magic = viking dark = SG silky black

@SandwhichIsles thanks I think @lunecat has some if not all of these Viking dark is Silky dark if I remember correctly. http://snuffhouse.org/discussion/8386/sam-gawith-silky-dark/p1 I like SG, so I may try these someday when I find some money

@basement_shaman‌ glad I could be some help. It is indeed silky dark, i thought I had said the wrong name but I was too lazy (and a little in my cups last night) to go check the snuff cabinet. @lunecat‌ I’ve heard that SG bouquet and SS golden pinch are the same, I’m going to put golden pinch on my next order to see.

has a kind of musky aroma, but still plifing at the same time.

Well, that’s a new word to me, but I’ve just had a pinch of Golden Pinch, and I have to say I definitely feel pliffed! :smiley: What’s the scent like to me… It reminds me of something I’ve been trying to recall. Maybe a freshly opened packet of Parma Violet sweets. Or, maybe closer - if you’re in the UK (this might be relevant to other places, I don’t know), when you were a kid, did you used to buy Lucky Bags (also known as Jamboree Bags)? Well, you know how you’d feel the bags to get the most interesting shaped toy, then when you opened them to get to the toy (that usually didn’t work) there’d be a lovely florally/violetty aroma from the mix of sweets contained therein? That’s a bit what the scent is like. I seem to recall on the old version of SnuffStore it was suggested it was as close as they could get to Smith’s Golden Cardinal.

I have also compared Golden Pinch to SG Bouquet, and found them to be similar, but not quite identical. GP lighter, a little more refreshing than the SG, but both nicely floral and not cloying to my nose. I have not tried any of the others, they seemed too close to the SG versions, some of which I’m not fond of, esp the Silky, which is too damn silky for me. I prefer Black Rappee, Menthol Black, Lavender Dark, the Kendal Brown Plain. They are incomparable in my humble opinion.

Iwas actually going to start using pliff, pliffed, pliffing conversationally. There we have it etymology in action.

@SandwhichIsles I will pliff to that ! Pliff to kick mud and poo on the shoe of the man

@basement_shaman‌ Pliffing fantastic!

@SandwhichIsles Yea you could make a cartoon show of Pliff village, they live in tobacco huts and carry snuff boxes. and Papa pliff and pliffete, and all the other pliffs go pliffing ,constantly being chased by garglepliff. Oh never mind it has been smurf to death.

@HR_pufnsnuff‌ "I seem to recall on the old version of SnuffStore it was suggested it was as close as they could get to Smith’s Golden Cardinal. " You are almost correct. In fact Smith’s latterly used Samuel Gawith to make their Golden Pinch. They originally used Gawith Hoggarth. Hence Golden Cardinal is not simply “as close as they could get”, it is the same snuff re-branded. As previously noted batches do vary (plus expectations of course), but there you have it.

Well, I’ll be pliffed! :open_mouth: :smiley: I have to say my tin was languishing in the bottom of my snuff case all forgotten about 'til this thread came along, but now it’s visited again on a regular basis. It’s a very nice snuff.
