Just taken delivery of a fresh batch of delights from Snuff Store - mostly Fribourg & Treyer, with a couple of Tim & Julia Love’s excellent house blends - and what a delight in the new packaging thereof! Snuff Store’s house blends no longer come in plastic bags, but in very classy aluminium tins, similar size to the “medium” tins from Wilsons of Sharrow - except that the Snuff Store tins have screw-on lids with a polystyrene or polyethylene sealing layer inside the lid to ensure an airtight seal without having to use brute force when closing the tin. Result? 10g of first class snuff that has a deliciously balanced moisture content, and classy brushed aluminium tins that look great on desk, coffee table or just taken from the pocket. Tim and Julia have paid attention to detail; even the labels present the words “Blender’s Snuff”, the variety name and obligatory health warning with a touch of class. So, now we can enjoy Snuff Store house blends in a condition that rivals F&T, with tins also in the same league, but easier to pinch from [if pinching is your style].
That sounds very nice! I have not ordered from them yet but I do plan on trying some of those house blends since you can’t find them elsewhere and some are highly regarded. I was going to order them anyhow but hearing about their new tins makes me want them even more so. Thanks for the info.
Quick intro to those I have tried: Golden Pinch: very, very similar to G Smith’s Golden Cardinal - and a very pleasant, subtle, “traditional Edwardian” gently scented snuff. Deserving of similar acclaim to the reputation of the Smith’s product; Café Noir: Their blender’s take on back coffee; very, very close to Smith’s Cafe Royale; a superb rappee with deep, strong black coffee; SP: Just what it says on the tin, a good, honest SP of high quality; Bucks Fizz: Champagne and oranges; in the new tin, deserving of an audience with Royalty; Gin & Tonic: has a fabulous aroma from the tin; scheduled to be tasted later, possibly after a glass of the liquid refreshment by the same name. I have to say, with the quality of their house blends, the huge selection they stock, and the pride they take in servicing orders quickly*, I have become a loyal customer! * Best turn-around to date: an order I placed well into the afternoon last year which arrived in the following day’s post!
I’ve been unable to reach snuffstore.co.uk for a while, yet Google seems – if its cache is to be trusted – to still be retrieving pages from there.
Has to be something “your end” - the site’s working fine for me [in the UK]
I had a similar problem loading their website recently. When the page attempted to load I was prompted for a name and password, it was wierd but it seems to be ok now. I live in the US so I could never expect a delivery to arrive the next day. I’d imagine it’d probably take as long as an order from MrSnuff, a week or more. The way you describe Golden Pinch makes it sound good. I was under the impression it was a floral/perfumed snuff and I don’t really care for those. Bucks Fizz, Cafe Noir, and Blenders all sound really good. Did you try Blenders Bundle, Fretless? If so, whats your opinion? I’ve never been big on gin but I’d give the G&T a try, its only 10g so if I hate it it wouldnt be the end of the world.
I’d be happy to buy snuff from Snuffstore and have indeed already done so. However, I am a fan of a couple of GH and several SG snuffs. These appear to be unavailable in tubs and tins, rather than only the universally disliked tap boxes. For this reason they have lost my custom on recent mixed purchases. I’d be happy to find I’m wrong and tins and tubs of these classic snuffs are available in tubs and tins there…
Snuffstore is an excellent shop, great customer service and great selection. I also get orders the next day when I order from them. Also since we now have Mr Snuff in the UK, the selection has never been better, or delivered quicker for us Brits, this is a good time to be a snuffer. Stefan
In all fairness, it’s not just Suffstore that doesn’t have a full range of the above mentioned snuffs apart from in the tap boxes. I was very impressed with their service when I bought there. I tried the three SG Crests in tap boxes. Loved them but was off by the way they came out of the box like a pool of fine sand; not a great texture in the nose! A case I suspect of the snuff texture made to suit the container, or perhaps the boxes are just not airtight at all. I’ve followed the Fretless advice on rehydration. The texture is now not far away from the SG SP I bought in bulk, though perhaps not quite so fluffy. At this level of hydration I think these snuffs are superb. I need some experienced advice. What level of hydration are these snuffs intended to be ? And where if anywhere can I buy these in 25 g tins? If you have some of these snuffs in tap boxes and they just don’t cut it- try hydrating them for a really pleasurable snuff.
Petersuki I don’t know if SG have taken the hint, or if SnuffStore have agreed that tap-tanks are bad, but Tim & Julia seem to be moving over to selling SG in 20g tins rather than 10g tap-tanks. Certainly, I might then give one or two of the SG blends another try - the tap-tanks are nasty! jbruckus - I have not tried Blenders Bundle yet - although it’s on my list to try. Likewise the hoppy variety from McCrystals.

You can buy the 25g tins at My Smoking Shop. They have the full range
