Snuff Storage

So I got my 500g Viking Dark order from Mr Snuff yesterday. I am very excited. I go through 25g every 9 days so I calculated that it will take me about 6 months to take all of it. I have many empty tins that I will fill and then I will have the bulk of it left to store. Where should I store it? Should I keep it in the refrigerator? Should I load it in a Mason jar like pipe tobacco. I don’t want it going stale. Thanks:)

Smaller glass jars would be the best method.2 oz jars hold 25 grams easy. Baby food jars are nice to use. or you could spend money and buy jars by the case. 4 oz will hold more than 50 grams. I use the blue jars because they are cool. A dark color is best but clear is ok http://www.freundcontainer.com/amber-straight-sided-squat-glass-jars/p/v5001B51/ http://www.freundcontainer.com/blue-glass-packer-bottles/p/V4235B03BLU/

Well, I can’t afford to buy any jars. I can barely afford my habit right now. I build and repair computer and business has been slow. Looks like I will just have to store the bulk of it in a 1qt mason jar and open it as little as possible. Thanks for the info Shaman!!!

The quart jars are just fine. Since you will be using the snuff instead of long term storage I am pretty sure that is your best bet in keeping it fresh.

Check ebay. I found amazing deals on glass jars with low shipping.

Would it make any difference at all for me to put my 10g tins of Toque in a mason jar?

Im wonderin the same for 25g toque…is the foam rubber seal in the lid very good at keepin the snuff fresh?..i swear my spanish gem has already lost alot of scent and is goin dry …well drier then it was i guess… which brings up another question … whats so great about the spanish gem … im not impressed … did i get a bad tin maybe?

@dvsfaust Spanish Gem is special for several reasons. It’s my understanding that aside from SP Extra, Spanish Gem is the only other scented snuff that uses Toque Quit as its base. Quit being an extra fine lamina only flour. Another reason is that it was made and named in tribute to the infamous Spanish Gem which was smuggled out of Spain and shared amongst a few lucky souls.

i stare my open tins in the tin in a mason jar. Works pretty good. Thanks for all the responces. Happy New Year!!!

@Juxtaposer that explains why it smells like my quit … i get its history an all, but what ive read on these boards i was expecting to open a can of this and get hit with an awesome aroma, like i said maybe i got a bad tin … either way as for now, im not impressed…maybe my nose isnt trained enough to appreciate it :-/

I find when Spanish Gem smells like Quit, it means it’s going stale. As I don’t like Quit at all, this means I can only snuff fresh S.Gem. Bulk is the answer for freshness.

Well that sucks lol…all the lids on my tins seemed like they were barely screwed on when the arrived in the mail, anyone else have toque tins like this? Are they machine filled? Hand filled? Did customs open my snuff? The SG is the only one im bummed about, all the othere tins seem to be fine, 5 outa 6 aint bad i quess :-bd

I’m looking at the Patrick Collins snuffboxes. They are all beautiful boxes! Is there a wood that is preferable over another for any reason? Also, what’s the reason for alternating corners?

Just opened a 25g tin of Spanish Gem… Awesome aroma, no subtle but not in your face either… So I do think you have a did… So sorry…

You can glue a piece of a terracotta clay flower pot to the bottom of the lid of the mason jar . wet it once a month and your snuff will never dry out. There are stones , metal-encased tobacco pouch humidifier and ones in a leaf shape you can buy. natural cork, and that green dry Floral foam stuff. some drink coasters like thirsty stones. all will work if you wet them when needed

Ill order another can of SG when i place my next order, maybe this one will be better … i have the SG i have in a mason jar now, so ill compair it with the new can when i get it, but even if its a “dud” i still like using it, just dont get all the subtle aromas some ppl claim to pick up on…but like i said maybe my nose isnt “trained” enough to pick up on it, i mean my girlfriend smells it and says it smells great. *shrug*

I’ve never done anything other than keep bulk supplies in airtight conditions. I don’t think anything else matters as my oldest snuffs are over 30 years now and just as good as they ever were.

I farted around with many different kinds of containers last year. It’s true, though, the only ones that really did the job well were the mason jars.

@Shawn622 Cool, I think I’ll transfer my tins into a mason jar tonight. Want to keep them as fresh as possible
