I just received a new shipment of snuff. 100g HDT, 50g of Bordeaux, 50g of Viking Dark, and 21g of O&G. I want to keep them as fresh as possible. I know a humidor is the ideal but its not in the budget right now. What other options are there? I was thinking of storing them all in a Tupperware container. Anybody know if that will work? Also, are there any adverse effects to storing them all in the same container (i.e. aroma bleeding into each other, etc.) ? I don’t want these to dry out. Any and all suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you.
Tupperware should be fine. I haven’t noticed any bleeding between snuffs when I store mine, although I don’t have that much of a nose for these things. The F&T containers are pretty airtight on their own in my experience.
I would keep the O&G and maybe Bordeaux separate from the HDT I think. Putting the tins in Zip lock bags are another option.
@Bloodnativ … i would opt for Bell Mason jars - 1/2 pint or 1 pint jars, the kind used for canning, made of glass, two part lid. they are inexpensive and air tight.
@snuffbrant… DUH! I don’t know why I didn’t think of that. I have close to a dozen or so that I’ve used to store pipe tobacco. Thank you for reminding me.
cool … you are set.
I have all my snuff (about 120) in vacuum. Has worked very well all this years.
I just started using 3/4" scotch tape to seal my metal tins from WOS and McChrystals. It works great for sealing them, can be used a couple of times before replacing it with a new piece. Rub it on good when applied. I can smell the WOS Rum and Blackberry escaping from the tin right after removing the tape as I prepare myself for another tasty hit.
I tape up tins I’m not using. Works a treat.
I usually put a moist tonquin bean in with open tins and have found that it keeps humidity up nicely for a couple of weeks. Also blue painter’s tape works nicely and is easy to both apply and remove.
For taping the tins, one might try regular black electrical tape. Also, for those people they can ship to, there is a business called “Mountainrose Herbs” which sells colorless recycled glass spice bottles with cork stoppers, and what are they, about $1 something, to $2 something, I think they have a capacity for about a little more than an ounce or so and seem to be a perfect fit for a tins-worth of a F&T snuff. If you’re like me you’ve had one of their tins corrode internally (contaminating the snuff), or just totally drying out. Also for any DIY snuff people they sell high quality essential oils at great prices, and pure menthol crystals for I believe 4oz./$10. And no, I have no official ties to them:)
Personally I don’t think where you store snuff matters. What is important is to try and stop air exchange at the lid. I seal all my tins with rubber tape and have no problems with snuff going stale (like Wilsons do with their tins, but I use more tape)
I store all my snuffs together in one massive kilner jar. So far so good, no flavour exchange or leeching, all stay relatively fresh etc.
All snuff needs to stay as fresh as the day you bought it is an airtight container. Freezing, humidoring and anything else are redundant; they will all work, but no better than plain airtight sealing. I have too many snuffs into their fourth decade now, that are all perfect, to think anything else is needed.
It seems that there are many different methods of storing stuff to maintain freshness. I think I will try utilizing several different methods and see which one works best and most convenient. I appreciate all the response.
I just saw these at snuffgear:

three different sizes … does 1 ounce of snuff rough out to 25 grams of snuff? seemed like an interesting vacuum sealed option. not too cheap … but not too expensive.
they also have the same round silver dispenser found on mrsnuff that snuffster had pointed out on a different thread:

… had to pick me up 4 of the silver round dispensers …
Dude I picked up a few small tubs (about as big as a kleenex box) at bed bath and beyond that form an airtight seal when closed. I then took all of my 25g+ containers of snuff and put them in. Then I stocked up on both smash boxes and plastic snuff boxes, so I can rotate my snuffs and have about 5-10g of each one at my disposal.
Yeah - I have pretty much done the same and use mason jars. I just had never seen this type before at snuff gear. I didn’t buy them just bought the round silver snuff boxes.
