Snuff Snus & Nicotine

Ok its official i am having rather a mad day and i have some questions that reflect this, still i am curious and would like to know the answers. Snus has nicotine content listed what prevents snuff from having a similar system If you was to use a grinder could you snuff Snus. I ask this question after reading that one of the Snus greats used to test the quality of Snus by taking a large pinch up his snoot. As always i would love to hear your thoughts

I guess that’s for portion snus? For snuff obviously there is no standard portion. And snuff is very very old and was produced long before people cared or regulated such things.

All of it seems to have a nicotine rating even the loose snus is rated 8mg 12mg 16mg perhaps like you say it is just tradition that dictates Below is the relevant portion of the article that aroused my curiosity Abrasive man with a big nose Knut Ljunglöf was an abrasive man with a big nose and an infallible taste for fresh snus. The combination of these qualities made him one of Swedens most successful buisnessmen during the 19th century. Many people wondered what the secret behind his popular snus “Ettan” was. Then he use to calmly point to his grandiose nose and say: - Here! Every morning there was fresh snus in a silverbowl on his desk, that he shoveled up his nose. He tested the aroma, sneezed in his handkerchief and contently nodded his head. Consequently the snus was approved and ready to pack and sell. Knut Ljunglöf was obsessed with quality, with everything from shoe soles to ceiling lamps. He refused to export his snus, because then he couldn’t guarantee that it was fresh at arrival. But Ljunglöf made one exception and that was for Pope Leo XIII, that with delight accepted the deliveries with swedish snus. So whilst Snus is for the lip this old master tested the quality with his nose.

I imagine snuff would be measured by the percentage of nicotine (2%, 3% 4% etc). I think I read that somewhere. Of course it wasn’t measured way back with no means to do so but I’d be surprised if hasn’t been done since for testing, say… nicotine levels vs nitrosamines for example, or who knows what else, whatever someone was interested in.

I think Roderick has published some numbers by weight on the forums somewhere

Canada requires nicotine content to be published on the can. Hence I have seen on Canadian tins that O & G has 3.5% and S’nuff has 3.4%.
